    Hey all,

Today I installed my RCI rock sliders on my 2020. I’m not very handy so it took me a while but I did get it done. But there is one particular aspect of the install that I’m not sure is acceptable.

According to the instructions on 2017+ Tacomas there will only be 4 side bolts instead of 6 for older models. I actually found 5 total on each side which is great, but one if them is a bit questionable. When I installed the bolt and nut were rubbing pretty hard on the brake line and I didn’t feel super comfortable tightening it down. So I reversed the direction the bolt is inserted which left the smaller bolt head touching the lines but not really applying pressure. Here’s a picture of before and after:

    Before:

    After:
    F0B30D63-C76B-487A-BC65-08EC0AFD1E90.jpg

As you can see there’s a lot more room even when fully tightened but it’s still pretty much flush against the lines.

Do you think this is a problem? Should I do something to pad it or should I just remove the bolt and live with 4 which RCI says should be fine?

Apart from that I’m super excited about these. They look great and I am going to feel a lot more comfortable on the trails.

Just finished installing my RCI sliders. That is how mine looked. I am considering ordering these Zinc-Aluminum-Coated Alloy Steel Socket Head Screw 7/16"-14 Thread Size, 1-1/2" Long McMaster Carr P/N 91274A392. The round head diameter is 0.626 verses the hex head size of 0.625" but I think the round head would cause less problems with the lines. I know regular black oxide bolts will rust right away here in the midwest. Does anyone have a better solution?
I am also curious about everyone's thoughts on drilling and installing the additional 2 bottom screws, I don't see a downside but am nervous about drilling into the frame.

    I'd just use 4.

Did mine yesterday as well and ran into the same issue. After watching several manufacturer instal videos very consistent that they apply some gentle pressure to make sure the brakes lines do not rub on the bolt. Does not take much to get enough clearance to avoid them rubbing.

Do you have any pics of how yours ended up? Were those videos suggesting you essentially bend the lines to get them out of the way? I’d probably rather just remove this bolt but I don’t know much about the construction or toughness of the lines.

Yeah this is how I’m leaning too. Haven’t seen a single person suggest the setup is OK as is. I did email RCI about it though and hope to get a response.

Just bend the steel lines a little so there’s a bit of clearance. They’ll be fine as long as you don’t put a kink in them.....

Do you have suggestions for how to bend them without kinking them?

EDIT: found lots of videos about bending using a bending tool which seems easy if the line is not attached, but it seems like they would be pretty hard to remove to bend.

Don’t know if it helps any but this is what my Pelfrey looks like. Came with a relocation like bracket.

I bend them and put a hose over them just in case it goes back into the same shape.

FWIW, this is how I secured the brake lines that run along the driver's side frame rail. A combination of a bolt, nut, washers, spacer and rubber lined fuel line clamps. Holds them plenty snug and pushed them off the frame enough not to rub on the slider bolts.

Interesting. So did that relocate the entire electronics box? Because on mine I had to reverse that bolt as well otherwise it stuck out too far to let the box reattach.

Brilliant! Do you happen to have a link to the clamp?

I got them from NAPA but a decent hardware or auto parts store (Ace, True Value, Fastenal, Grainger) should have something like this. They're called various things like fuel line clamps, vibration absorbing clamps, cushioned clamps, cable clamp, etc. I don't remember the size off the top of my head but maybe 1/8".

BTW, for everyone's reference I took some more pics of the 5 side attachment points. Starting from front (1) to back (5):

They’ll bend easily without any tools, just do it slowly and gently.
I’d hold the two lines near the white plastic frame mount with my left hand and just pull them down and towards the middle of the truck with my right.....
