2020 Startup Grinding Noise w/ Video

Any thoughts on what this grinding noise is? I'm thinking starter teeth on fly wheel.

Dragging startup, only when warm, after sitting for about 30 minutes up to several hours. Starts fine cold.

Injector #1 has been replaced due to leakdown, along with all 6 injector seals, all 6 spark plugs, and a brand new Optima Red Top battery. All OEM parts aside from the battery.

Have ran plenty of tanks of gas with no improvement and have tried injector cleaner and the whole nine yards.

I don't really hear grinding but it's loud here at work. All I hear is a delayed start. Back to the dealer it goes!

 

It kinda sounds like the starter is not disengaging right away after you had started the engine and it's the teeth on the flywheel your hearing

Okay, I honestly agree. I got the same reply from a few others on a different forum as well. I have a starter on the way; just wanted to confirm my suspicions before I do the work.

I’ve been to three different dealerships over the course of 8+ trips (completely exhausting any options in my area) and have had a case opened with Toyota corporate for months as well as complaints filed with the NHTSB and the BBB. I wouldn’t be posting about it again unless I was at my last resort. Understand that you reach a certain level of frustration when dealing with assholes before you decide it’s not worth the trouble and handle it yourself. I was told on my last trip that "it's just the truck learning how to start more efficiently".

 

Ah, ok..............now I feel your pain. I hate the dealerships as well and try to avoid at all costs. Sorry you are dealing with all this BS and hope you get it sorted out, Good luck and keep us updated as well.

 

Forgot to ask, where do you live that you are having so many issues with the dealers................

Nope. Pretty sure I have narrowed it down to the starter though.

I feel bad cause I am getting shit on for starting another thread over it ^ but like, it's hard to grasp just how frustrating it is to be dealing with this on a 6 month old vehicle with 14,500 miles and virtually nobody gives a shit.

That kind of starter shit on my new truck would piss me off.

I haven’t look looked on the 3.5, but there should be a plug you can pull to look at the flywheel. See if the teeth are getting mangled.
