    Just turn your truck on...let the display come to...

    Goto "settings" then Bluetooth and sync your phone as the screen suggests.

    Do you have "Navigation" installed?

    If not, you'll need the "Dongle" I mentioned if you don't want to hard-wire connect your phone via USB.

    I have iPhone so the Apple CarPlay works fine for me.

    If you have Android, I'm not sure how that will work out with the Dongle...I suspect the same but someone mentioned it didn't work for them.

    Sometimes I feel as if I have lived under a rock. Thank you for your help.

    Am I doomed to a dongle just to have carplay featured on my head unit?

    I have a dongle but when I purchased a new Iphone the dongle would not work. I am assuming that I need to get an upgraded dongle.

    Hmmm...

    Did you delete your old phone from the system and re-sync your new phone?

    So far…. Added fog lights swapped halogens to led’s, interior lights to led’s, bed lights added, led/strobe brake lights, trying to figure out the right leds for turn signals.
    I believe they want to use the CarPlay wirelessly, if I understood correctly? But the “dongle” things run too slow

    Is there a drawing for a prize if you use dongle in a post?
    We need some more pictures of these dongles you are referring to. For research purposes. Dongle.

    Lift, wheels, tires, sliders, and skidplates...so far.
    Bluetooth works but when I use it on mine, it forces me to use the terrible Toyota map thingy when I need the map. I much prefer google maps so I keep my phone tethered to the head unit too. My issue is that the cable disconnects with the slightest bump from someone's leg or a cup in the cup holder. I complained to Toyota and they claim it doesn't happen with an "apple" cable. I have apple cables and just have been too lazy to test their theory but plan to before I take her in for the 15,000 mile service.

    Apple will clean the port out for free as well. They can also clean out the speakers.

    I pay Apple top dollar for these overpriced pieces of foreign made plastic. I’ll make them earn their money!

    Thank you though, good to know.

    Its still a aggravating but what makes it worse is Amazon Auto. So I guess its not fair to blame just the dongle and more accurate to tell you that when I play amazon music through the Amazon Auto its very slow.

    Voice command
    Amazon Auto wakes receives command and sends that though bluetooth to Iphone.
    Iphone receives it and sends command via tether to the head unit.

    I have connected my phone to Bluethooth and still have to tether to the head unit if I want to use Apple Carplay.

    The question that I have now is there anyone experiencing Carplay without tethering?

    @USMILRET

    I have an iPhone 11 and use the Dongle (CarlinKit 3.0) specifically for Google Maps...since I don't have Navigation.

    I'm also able to receive phone calls via Bluetooth as well as text messages that are read aloud by Siri and she asks if I want to reply. (This interrupts music playing until action is completed)

    Wait for the "ding!" and dictate your reply and "done!".

    I have not experienced any lag with the dongle and it connects [roughly] within 30 seconds after starting up my Sport.

    Have a great Friday!

    Its good to see where you are not experiencing lag. I will reconsider another dongle.
    Thank you.

    @USMILRET

    I remember getting an email from vendor saying not to update the version...for some reason.

    Did you update your version?

    I'll leave this alone...as it's become quite the long dialogue about a dongle. lol
