I'm kinda sad there's no hybrid.

I know it was a rumor, and not entirely likely, but I was hoping!

From the teaser photo, I was expecting something more than what was provided...

Don't hold your breath. This is 99.99% not going to happen, especially since they went through the trouble of fitting a new head unit for basically the sole purpose of adding CarPlay.

To clear up some questions -

Hybrid will be available "soon" - but no other drivetrain changes on the horizon. Tundra will have more for 2021.

    LED Projectors

*Power Seat - only the driver's is powered. Framework should be the same, except there's not a wire harness to supply power - unless you tap into the seat belt sensor and/or seat heater.

    Very unlikely.

GOOD NEWS - HEADLIGHTS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE!

Physical assembly changes between the current and new are minor, and do not alter the mounting points or overall shape.

The current head unit (including JBL w/Entune) will not support the new upgrades. This is a capacity and processing matter, not just a software upgrade.

We will see, they could adapt the TNGA to a body on frame, Toyota wants to continue to streamline by going towards less platforms and more universal platforms.

I was waiting to see what the 2020 Tacoma truck was going to be , I’m disappointed . I’m done I’m out I’m going over for the jeep gladiator 2020. I would never purchase a 2020 vehicle with drum brakes just can’t do it. I have a new JL wrangler and I love it it’s awesome. I expect no less from the new jeep gladiator truck. But the 2020 tacoma has a power seat that so many people wanted I guess thats good if You think that makes a great compact truck.

I couldn't find the bolded quote in the article. It just says modular. Yes, many TNGA are modular unibody, there will be two segments for the unibody vehicles .TNGA also has a 3rd segment for Tundra, Hilux, Tacoma, Sequoia, 4Runner, Prado and Land Cruiser will be built on similar (scale-able) body-on-frame builds.

TNGA also has a body-on-frame platform and will underpin all trucks for the US market that are body-on-frame

    https://www.wardsauto.com/industry/toyota-s-new-global-architecture-extending-trucks
"The Toyota New Global Architecture, which debuted on the ’18 Camry and ultimately will underpin all the brand’s front-wheel-drive cars, also will be adapted for larger body-on-frame trucks, executives here confirm, though they decline to say precisely when that will happen."

I seriously wonder how people come up with this incorrect information and spout it on the web like it is gospel. There have been many talks by Toyota folks mentioning TNGA and body on frames.

Please point to these. Because right now its all speculation, including what you are saying.

And simmer down, I don't think anyone is spouting stuff off like "gospel" simply discussing and speculating based on whats been said, experience or perhaps inside knowledge, like anything else on the internet, you take it with a grain of salt and move on. No one knows anything for sure except those working on it at Toyota, period.

I doubt they'd turn the Tacoma into a unibody TGNA, that would I think be a new model (RAV4 or Highlander truck?). The TNGA-F platform would have to be a lineage of the current BOF trucks if it's supposed to include 4Runner, Hilux, Fortuner, Prado or perhaps Land Cruiser. The Tacoma and Tundra are kind of step children platform-wise, neither really being like the Hilux or Land Cruisers with which they share some parts but they still lie on the traditional truck lineage.

Here's my just for fun, partially tongue in cheek response (at the bottom) to the 2020 Tacoma.

Biggest improvements to me, in order
    :
-Android Auto and bigger touch screen
-Power driver's seat... if it will enable drivers to adjust the seat LOWER than the previous setup
-Keyless/1 touch entry to passenger door! (hopefully the factory parts will be cheap and easy to install to my 2016)
-LED head/fog lights (high beams still halogen?)
    -LED bed lights
    -Panoramic surround camera, I guess

Biggest reasons why I won't upgrade, in order:
-Engine/transmission setup (99% of the reason)
-I want 4 door keyless/1 touch entry (1% of the reason, cuz I love my truck except for the 1st reason)

Have to add the most embarrassing aspects of TRD Pro because I still laugh when I see one:
    -Dealer markup (most embarrassing? maybe)
    -Snorkel
    -Side badge
-Little "TRD" and "PRO" lights up in the 2020 headlights  are.you.kidding.me. Can junior high kids drive or even afford a 45k+ vehicle. Just as a side note... I looked up the word douche in the dictionary and now, there's the 2020 TRD Pro on the same page with the Ridgeline.
SUGGESTION: They should stamp "BADDASS" or "TOUGH" into the sheet metal below the drivers window on the new Pro... along with the standard HP number of only 278, because, you know, Toyota Racing Development and Pro go together with.... uhh.....278hp.o_O

I agree, but for now its all in the air. They have alluded to a BOF TNGA (TNGA-F) platform, but who knows what it will look like for Tacoma in a few years. A guy here who pretty much nailed the refresh and seems to have an inside line, alluded to moving away from BOF.
