Btw sorry if this has been posted before, but I have tried everything and here is where I’m at:

My CarPlay stopped working around 4 months ago, worked for awhile though, I have tried replacing chargers, buying a new usb port, different phones, and still nothing works, when I click on projection it says connect phone with contactable usb - like it can’t see my phone is trying to connect with CarPlay, but the usb port still charges my phone and Bluetooth still works, What do I do??

    Rejoice.

My kids convinced me I just had-to-have Apple Car Play....

I hate everything Apple and should have known better -
I can't stand the behavior and worse... can't get rid of it....

Are you using an OEM Apple charging cable? Anything other than an original can be hit and miss.

Ah yes this could be the issue. Apple Phone MUST use Apple cable that was paid for via Apple Pay all at triple the price of anything comparable. ....
And it will all self-destruct after a few years so you can pay out the wazoo for New Apple Products.
Don't forget the Apple Ear Buds too and the Apple Watch.... which tells time, which my Phone does just as well.... but
it's an APPLE product so we just GOT to have it. And it all integrates with your IMac....

ps: I hate Apple stuff.... all of it.

I use Anker and a lot of other non-Apple cables. It has nothing to do with Apple nor with any other brand's cable, but with using the proper USB cable. A lot of the cheap cables found at the local stores, Amazon, and everywhere else aren't fully compatible. I can't ever remember the great number of USB cables I put in the trashcan, because while they may work with some head units and some phones, they fails to work every time.

That happened last night as I tried charging a set of PackTalk Bold Duo comm. devices from the wall USB charger using one of the cheap cables I have around the house. The PatckTalk units "charging" LED was intermittent, so I thought the wall charger was defective...until I wiggled the USB cord and found what the problem was :)

Also, be aware of USB cables that you may be happen to find at parking lots, your workplace, or anywhere else. Some of these cables can be dropped by scammers who want to access your phone or your network, or your workplace network, since they are designed to create their own Wi-Fi network as soon as you plug it into to your phone or computer, then scan data from your phone or computer and transmit it to the scammer's phones or computers. If you don't believe me, look it up at a network security website.

To the OP: just try a few different cables and see which one works. If none of the good quality cables work then the problem could be:

    a. Your phone or USB port
    b. The head unit or its USB port
    c. Or just that either your phone's OS, or the head unit CarPlay/Android software needs to be updated

Get a wireless adapter for CarPlay and have no cables. I use the CarLinKit Mini Ultra and it works well.
