    Hello Guys,

Have a new tacoma 2020 with around 1k miles. When I brake mostly in slow speeds, I notice it is not 1 smooth motion many times. I brake and on way down before full stop I notice a small "bite". Like an engagement of some sort before full brake and brake is full pressed. It does not prevent me from braking and subtle but it is there. Been a little rainy/muddy here past days so maybe something in there?

I am just making sure this is not normal before I ask the dealer to look at it. There were certain nuances I thought were issues and went to the dealer and looked at other tacomas and was normal.

Sorry if I posted this in wrong section!

I would do a search on breaking in brake pads. You’ll see a procedure that heats up the brakes and rotors so they seat correctly. Do that and drive for another 1000 miles before getting concerned.

Does it feel kind of like ABS kicking on a little bit? A little vibration in the pedal? My 2020 OR does this too and after some searching it looks like it's normal. I think the OR's and Pro's have an extra brake booster that helps build pressure. My 2018 sport didn't do it, but the 2020 OR does.

It is in the manual that if the radar detects you are going too fast or too close to an upcoming object it will adjust the pressure sensitivity on the brakes.. not sure if this is what you are experiencing however I have experienced this myself and let me tell you.. make sure you are wearing a seat belt. Just tonight some idiot crossed a 4 lane road in rush hour traffic. When my TSS saw him and I pressed on the brakes my truck came to a stop...

Thank you all for your responses! And this is Automatic and I am not sure if braking assists would do this when braking moving forward slowly?

Thank you and you are right it is new and I have been babying when driving so maybe they are not seated yet then I will try. Some of the tests are like agressive braking when I looked online though

It is like a little vibration but at low speeds? It is a 2020 OR and feels like a little scratchy/feedback halfway through the braking but not always does this. It is very subtle but weird. Where did you find this info? Thank you been looking like crazy for it

The OR and Pro have a Electro/Hydraulic type brake booster so the pedal will feel a bit different than the old vacuum assist style booster you are used to.

Yup sounds like the same thing mine does. I searched for "TRD OR brake feel/ abs" or something to that effect. I've got 1800 miles on my truck i've pretty much gotten used to it. Still kind of weird considering the only thing similar i've ever felt on any car is abs kicking on while sliding on ice.

Oooooh , thank you. Is there any way to maybe reduce this a little, better brake pads, lubrication, something or maybe gets better over time?

Just to know, else the old "just get used to it" haha

Yeah exactly, just a weird little quirk. At first I thought, are the brakes not gripping right or?

It's something you will adjust to, the first time I stepped on the brakes in my old 2015 I almost put myself thru the windshield, lol.

Yeah it is like a little bite/vibration I have to get used to on slow speeds. I got so used to that smooth motion I wonder why the OR and PRO have this

It just has a little different feel to it with no vacuum assist style booster.

As others mentioned it’s the brake booster or whatever with the off-road, I’ve had a few of both models it’s noticeable. I miss it actually.

So I guess better brake pads or whatever it never really went away the little bite in slow speeds? I am still trying to get used to it at first I thought my brakes weren't gripping or got dirty lol

So I guess I gotta get used to it huh? So far everyone says that "bite" won't go away or get smoother since just the mechanism

I see and thank you so much! it is not a deal braker for me I still love the OR how it drives and how I will use it

Think of it as the Clutch Pedal feeling different from vehicle to vehicle, you will adjust your driving style to it and before you know it you wont even think about it any longer.

I would presume this would be for the crawl control system, but do the manuals have this as well, as they lack crawl control?
