my buddy did on his 19 Limited. They put a damper behind his steering wheel ( I think), then replaced both his rear axles, and both his rear drums, and replaced his rear leafs. Still vibed. They told him there was nothing more they could do, it was a feature of these trucks. So he sold it, couldnt take it.

I’ve found there are three different scenarios,
Vibration while braking and highway speeds is the drums. I had the drums replaced twice for warps, the third time I took off my snow tires (2013 taco rims) the lugs were so tight my 450lbs impact gun struggled.
The warp went away when I used a torque wrench to tighten the lugs. Stealership used torque sticks to tighten wheels.
If you pull up on the handbrake and feel pulsating it’s the drums.

Second issue is braking at low speeds add 250-500 pounds to bed and issue will go away.
Third issue is what my taco does and that is shake at highway speeds.
Have had truck in 6 times. TSB done new springs drums twice two different sets of wheels and tires truck is just a bad build.
Steering wheel vibrates so bad my hands get numb, passenger seat shakes.
Torquing the wheels properly gets rid of braking issue.

"the lugs were so tight my 450lbs impact gun struggled." = I.M.O. way, way parts are broken/ruined for over tightened parts than under torqued.

My 2021 Off-Road completely stock does this vibration all the time. Typically it vibes at 40mph+ and when deceleration with foot off the gas, but not on the brake. My truck is a work truck and typically has 200-400 pounds in the bed at all times and a Diamondback cover.

Been through three sets of tires thinking it’s a balancing issue or out of round tire. Nope. My dealer is an A-hole and “can’t replicate”. If I put a coffee mug in the cup holder it’ll splash out. I’ve had the shocks, struts, and springs replaced with brand new factory Bilstein. Nope.

I think I’m gonna resort to the angled shims. Am I crazy?

The leaf springs are not angled correctly. They
I bet this will stop it. I had a 2016 off road 4x4 with the same problem. Traded it but thought of going back, drove a 2022 trd sport 2wd and same problem.

Well there is a TSB for this so it’s not supposed to be like this. The main solution it to change different leafs and it will intern change the pinion angle. They did this in my 2016 off-road and it helped alleviate some but not all. Took care of maybe 90% which I was ok with but had the rear diff screaming at high way speeds. I noticed they fixed that issue on the at least on the 2022’s that test drive.
I have one coming in on the 15th and I’ll see if it does the vibs. If it does and they won’t address the issue before I sign for it I’ll just walk and stay with my 4runner.

does this apply only to the 6 cylinder engine? Not the 2TR-FE?

at least we finally found the official, correct torque value for the u-bolts. 44 FT/LBS. not 73 ft/lbs like people were assuming.

I have a ‘23 DCLB TRD Sport, and this is my sixth Tacoma; 2nd third gen. I was also a professional mechanic for many years. Tacomas have always had shitty rear springs and driveline vibe problems. This one is worse than my ‘19. Guys, if your sanity is worth anything to you, stop taking them to the dealership. There are no real mechanics at dealerships anymore, these guys have no clue, no clue at all, how to diagnose actual mechanical issues. If the machine doesn’t tell him what to do, and if the manual doesn’t tell him what to do, they have no damned idea what to do. The problem is the suspension is not set up correctly and more importantly the driveline angles are out, this is why the vibe changes for some folks whether they’re loaded/unloaded/accelerating/ decelerating etc. because you’re changing your drive line angles. Do yourself a favor, your hairline and your sanity, and order a new rear driveshaft with a double-cardon joint behind the center bearing and you will never have issues again, lifted or not. While you are you at it imstall the bushing in the front end on the left side also just so you’ll never have to mess with that again either. Save for the transmission blowing up or an engine or some other electronic warranty item I will never take my truck to a dealership for driving ability issues ever again in my life. It just makes you hate your truck, life and the dealership, and it’s just not worth it. Part with the $1300 for the shaft, chock it up to the cost of doing business and go out about your happy lives. Trust me everything else is a waste of time. Alternatively, if you have a good driveline shop in your town, they can modify your existing shaft more economically. The vibration is annoying, but it’s not gonna hurt anything. Just deal with it until you can change the part

Great post - I dealt with this issue on my wife’s 80 series when I lifted it and the solution was the double cardan driveshaft due to the changed pinion angle. Measure your driveshaft and hit up Tom Woods in UT.

    *Discontinued*
Due to this product's inability to fix Tacoma drive shaft vibrations 100% of the time, and because of the extra costs incurred by us and our customers when handling returns when they don't work as expected, this drive shaft has been discontinued. Sorry, I know some of you were looking forward to getting one of these shafts. No, we cannot make exceptions and just make you one anyway, even if you really really want us to.

My completely stock 2019 A.C. is still plagued by harmonic style vibrations at speed. I did some reading on checking angle and purchased an inexpensive digital angle meter only to find when placing it on the surface that even the slightest movement of meter position the readings change drastically and don't see how one could determine tolerance's.

Looks like that shaft they made for tacos is not a double cardan. Anyone can order a custom double cardan or you could take your driveshaft off and have a driveline shop custom build a double cardan.

If you do take your driveshaft off, be sure not to move the wheels to keep the same positioning. I would keep the car on the ground and use wheel chocks so it doesn’t roll

East Coast gear supply makes one also and of course they do the ECGS bushing, yes don’t let it roll, you wanna make sure it stays in phase. the chances of you having driveline vibrations after a double cardan are pretty remote, that’s not to say that you don’t have a vibration Somewhere else, and you would be well-served to put a set of springs in there that are worth a crap and won’t wrap as easily, plus hey, you could actually haul stuff!
