My 2019 has a build date of April '19, so I can only PRESUME it has the video-referenced 2019/2020 transmission programming. Toyota says the updates are an "...EFFORT to maintain competitiveness...".

The most important takeaway is Toyota GETS AN "E" FOR EFFORT!

Kuddos Toyota, for apparently hiring an engineering team full of Millennials, who failed to deliver, but tried so hard!

Toyota already has a better motor. It is the 3L twin turbo inline 6 with 365ft-lbs of torque in the Supra. It would be perfect for the 4th gen. Instant muscle truck and it wouldn't steal customers who want a Supra sports car but would get some Ranger, Colorado, Gladiator shoppers reconsidering.

I’ve noticed that too on stop lights! I feel like it’s a double edged sword either I skinny pedal more at a stop and lose mpg or take off slow and then I piss people off behind me.

I'd happily pay for a legit powertrain. The rest of the truck really is awesome.

My Tacoma reminds me of an ex-girlfriend... some AMAZING attributes, but having to live with her on a daily basis is a no-go.

So wait a minute. Are you guys saying the 2GR-FKS lacks torque/power in the low RPMs. Because I have not read that before on this site

I'm getting the new tsb right now on my 17 trd or at the dealership and one thing the tech told me is that on the tow package add-on is with the trans cooler they install those after port entry so the truck comes a quart low on transmission fluid most of the time . So which is lame you buy a truck with already a quart low of transmission fluid awesome thanks Toyota hopefully everything is all well I'm excited for this tsb update I hope it's not gonna be a huge let down I'll post an update later today I have about a 40 Mile drive home with substantial hills and slight up hills I will see if the gear hunting gremlin is gone and the throttle robbing troll is gone also . Oh one more thing tech said is they have the transmission fluid at 90°F when the check the fluid levels I've also heard 100°F here on the forum and youtube . They said if it's low they will add more transmission fluid dangit one more thing tech said for 50mph and lower is to use ect in traffic or driving in the city wtf

I like the thought of OVTune a little more because of how it adjusts throttle response/curve, and shift timing. I don't really need to go faster or have more power like the sprint booster suggets, hell I don't really need adjustments to shift timing but it would be nice to see a difference.

Exactly. This engine and trans are a terrible combo. The trans wants to keep RPMs at 1400-2200 but the engine doesn’t make any damn power until 3500. This combo may work for MPG ratings but sucks for drivability.

If you drive like a grandma it’s fine, but if you like to drive in the powerband or just want to know that you have some passing power under your foot, you’re SOL.

I have a 2019 Off Road and live in a mountainous area. The past few weeks I've been driving up and down Snoqualmie on I-90. I am continually amazed at how hard the transmission works to maintain a speed. It gets boring driving the same route over and over. So, I've tried w/ & w/out the ECT; I have even tried to maintain 65mph, 67mph, and 70mph. If the 2019 has the same as the 2020, it's still pretty bad in my experience. Of course, I have been taking it on some National Forest roads more recently as well. And, I have to say that I really like the way the truck handles under 25mph. I never seem to think about the transmission at all, even when I am going up some sketchy inclines over some scree.

So, I'm torn. I don't like it in the mountains, but I like it off road in the mountains. Lately I've been thinking, maybe my expectations are too high.

Good god......nothing from BMW thanks!!. That would be a worst case scenario in my mind. I’d rather have a Fiat engine in my Tacoma than any of that shoddy beemer stuff.

It sucks on Texas highways, too. Try setting cruise control to 75mph.

Try east bound on Stevens pass. It has no idea what gear to be in.

So, I wonder if the new transmission tune is available for the 2018?
