You dont need to hang 6k on the tach to get it to go.
You test drove the truck before you bought one, right?

Yes I test drove it. It had not completed it's learning procedure so it drives different now.

This what happens for me, I need to accelerate, I hit 1/4 throttle nothing happens, 1/2 throttle nothing, 3/4 throttle and then BAM, 9 downshifts and I'm taking off like a rocket when all I wanted to do was change lanes.

In my 4runner it's 1/4-1/2 throttle, truck moves, happy me.

Well, shit, I am about to move back to Austin TX and was hoping the lack of Mtns would make me forget about the trans altogether!

Ha! I’m heading to Banff and Jasper next week, pretty sure I’ll experience something similar.

Maybe. I have no problems going over 90, 20 or mt Baker highway but Stevens pass keeps the truck up and down shifting constantly

My truck seems to constantly choose between two gears on 90, and occasionally 3, but I am carrying a lot of weight. About 80% of capacity.

9 downshifts seems like an exaggeration. Let’s keep it real. I depress the accelerator 1/4’ or so and it downshifts smoothly. I don’t have any issues with the engine/transmission. I had a 2016 with all tsb’s applied. My 2019 is better than that one out of the box. Sorry your unhappy with yours.

    Have you used S mode?
For some the manual transmission is not an option. I have been driving manual Toyota pickups since 1977. I’m in my 70’s now and have no desire to shift. The auto works great for me over hill and dale. I especially like the adaptive cruise.

Actually, I have not. I've only used S mode when I am towing. I'll be back in that area in a few weeks and will give this a try.

You seem fixated on the gear the truck is in.
I believe this is mostly psychological and has to do with having a tachometer in front of your face.
If you were listening to music on the radio. Or a talk show and didn’t have a tach you would probably just drive the way an automatic is meant to be driven. Which means push the pedal go faster, let off slow down. It works.
    This is a silly fixation.

In my 19, I have to manipulate the throttle on a certain hill or it will cycle 5-4-3-4-5-4-3.... spending a second or so in each gear until you get to the top.

Put it in "S" mode and select the proper gear for that hill. I think a lot of people are just using "Drive". We have many options with this transmission for different conditions so use them. I had a 2016 that exhibited the issues people complain about. I had all tsb’s applied and it improved greatly. My 2019 is better performing right from the showroom than my 2016 did after tsb’s we’re applied.

I’ve been posting that since I got it in February and there are still naysayers implying I’m full of bovine doo-doo. Nice to see someone else say it. My ‘19 doesn’t have any of the shifting issues my buddy’s ‘16 does.

I don’t think people are using all the features (modes) this transmission has. They may be just putting it in Drive and expecting it to work the way they imagine it should.

I’m not talking about using all the modes. Mine does work as it should.
