It would be interesting to see someone make some TRD PRO replacement insert (*cough @MESO) because the only other difference on my setup minus the chrome insert is that illumination of the logo.If you really wanted to put in the work doing that swap, all you'd have to do is paint the chrome. But yea... the TRD PRO ones still look great! If I had the HID setups I would make that jump for sure.

Kind of off topic, but since it's somewhat related I'll talk about it here. Most people doing this probably already know the oddities of the stock tail lights and the chrome insert is 10 fold worse in those than it is in the headlights. Much more visible at all angles and times. The lighting is also very weird, especially when braking and such. I pulled the trigger on some "Unique Style Racing" tail lights that are essentially a better version of the PRO's. They have the same chrome removal but what seperates them is they also remove the excess red brake light portion that the PRO's use to replace that chrome. So it's all black instead. I also got the Meso Total Tail V1 setup on the way to change the oddball lighting technique from the factory. So if anyone is looking to also replace those as well, the USR setup seems to be of good quality and IMHO, looks better than the PRO's.

    USR vs PRO's:

Meso Total Tail vs. Stock (same for V1 and V2):

Question. I am between these or morimotos XB gen 2. Pros and cons of both?

    Pro's: OEM Led's
    Cons: Morimoto

    Any questions?

    Seriously, stick with oem.

If memory is correct Morimoto's have a 5 year warranty, are re branded Chinese stuff, less output, not as clean light cutoff plug and play with factory harness? OEM's, brighter, cleaner cutoff, 1 year warranty, you'll need a harness from daveeasa, but it's better quality than anything else on the market.

Edit: There's over a hundred pages of proof and support for oems on this thread if that tells you anything.

I would recommend reading @crashnburn80 ‘s detailed reviews of both in the third gen lighting thread.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...11-projector-headlights.589465/#post-19689308

    off memory:

Xb v2 as compared to OEM LED
Higher total output (more emitters, more power consumption) but I forget if this was low beam, high beam or both
Build quality concerns with the units which were tested resulting in an odd pattern on one side
Extreme cutoff without adequate uplight making distance vision more difficult (check me on this one)

It’s a clear choice to me but I also know of people who have gone the other way and are happy with their decision.

I will say this, if there were no OEM LED option, I would probably be using the xb v2’s. And if they made a set for my ‘02 Tundra I would buy that.

I’m biased toward OEM parts in general unless the aftermarket option is clearly superior in strength or performance. For some, the xb v2’s might qualify, for me they don’t.

Thanks for your input! One more question sorry. Whats the difference between trd pro led headlight vs non trd pro? Is it just the badge or they look darker?

OEM LED headlight assemblies covered in post #3626 here
Morimoto v2.0 assemblies covered in post #4548 here

TLDR: The Morimotos are higher output intensity, but have build quality issues. The Morimotos lack uplight, which is designed in all OEM headlights, so they actually limit your vision on low beam as it is not a proper headlight pattern. OEM LED headlights are the superior option.

To real high performance SAE fogs like the SS3 Max. Those appear to be just off road lights, they don't look like Baja's SAEs (which you'd definitely want to avoid).

“TRD” and “PRO” badging and black vs chrome on the internals.

Leaving all of us with the impossible decision between poser pro truck or ‘80’s chrome truck or spending even more to have @no vtec 4me bake and eject the badging to your brand new already expensive headlights.

I think we are close to 50/50 on the split for this decision but at least aligned in terms of making the decision based on avoiding the part that bothers us the most.

The best of both worlds! I also will paint the little divider between the high/low beams gloss black, just makes them look that much better
