So I’m thinking about getting the OV Tune installed on my truck. From what I’ve heard, the 2020’s are tuned differently than the previous years. I’ve only driven a 2020 so I don’t know from if there’s a huge difference.

I’m not really noticing too much hunting of gears but wouldn’t mind an upgrade in performance if there is some available.

Wanted to see if anyone with a 2020 has gotten the OV tune and noticed any major changes in mpg or performance.

Haven’t gotten 5.29 gears yet but plan to. Currently have skids, sliders, 295/75/16 tires, steel front bumper, and winch.

I just recently, within the last two weeks, have flashed a tune onto my 2020. Still a noticeable and significant difference in my opinion.

    Same here.

What have you noticed that changed?

Better throttle response, better shifting, etc. Basically what the truck should have been from the factory. And can be tweaked from there to improve that even more.

So I see a lot of automatic transmission guys install the tune and it helps with shift points. (Among other things) Does it help on manual transmission trucks or is the primary reason to fix the sludge-O-matic?

It helps, I don't have much experience with it yet since I flashed it only a couple days ago but it woke up my 2020 Sport MT. 1st to 2nd gear is fun now, real easy to spin those tires!

I didn’t feel like the ov tune made a huge difference for me until I put moosedittys mild+wild 3.0 tune on it.

My suggestion would be order the vf tuner and then tune it with m+w and if you’re not satisfied then order the tune pack. You might save yourself a few hundred doing so.

Please give an update as you get to drive it some more and let me know what else you notice. I’m frustrated with the rev hang and the odd power surge around 2500-3000 rpm. It’s almost like a two stroke engine. Strange to me.

What your saying is all Greek to me. Lol I understand the VF Tuner what is the tune? Where do you get the tune? Sorry for my lack of knowledge I am a rookie at the tuning stuff. Lol

The Tune Pack you can purchase from OV Tune contains a set of files for the most common truck configurations gears/tire sizing/reg vs prem octane/etc and you apply the one that makes sense to your truck to OV Tune it. You can also use the VF Tuner to take the stock mapping and create a custom tune. Or you could take something from the Tune Pack and further customize it. That's the approach some of the people on TW are taking. You can also go further and make additional customizations such as increasing the alternator output if you have an AGM battery like I do.

Staying tuned for Manual transmission OVTune insight... Looking forward to any input.
I am interested in the tune for a '21 MT.

I have a '19 M/T, so not apples to apples.. but Rev hang has not been dealt with yet AFAIK (I've been tuned since 2017).

Mat (the OVtune Wizard), mentioned recently that there will be new tables and whatnot avail in Vf tune to help deal with it once a future update to the app is released.

Power delivery and rev hang are very strange in this truck. It makes you look like a rookie and over rev’g the engine when shifting and a more linear power line would be awesome too.

I hear you brother, all good points.

The latest version of the tune deals with this non-linearity somewhat, in that the "VTEC" kind of surge has been smoothed out (not completely gone though).

The good thing about OVtune and Vftuner is that, as Mat continues to find ways to correct issues, he passes it on to all of us :)

Sounds like a good company that listens to the customers and tries to give them what they want. I described the power curve to a friend as a two stroke dirt bike. Lazy until you get into it.

So if you buy the tune pack you get free updates on future releases? Does tune pack cover all configs, like if I change tire size or re-gear later etc I’m covered after initial purchase? Thanks in advance

Yes. But, there are no planned updates as @OVTune considers the 2.0 releases as complete. If there are patches, they will be free.

Editing the stuff that you mentioned can be done with the provided tunes or edited very easily in the vF software.
