I have a 2020 Tacoma Pro purchased in Oct. 2019. I have enjoyed the factory remote start feature for the last year. Two weeks ago the remote start quit working. I haven't paid to renew the SOS. Do you think this might be the reason?

Yes, assuming you’re talking about the app based remote start.

you should still be able to remote start with the fob though. Press lock 3 times. On the 3rd press, keep it pressed until it starts.

For me I've noticed the fob won't work when it's cold (frosty/icy) outside. But my app will work. Kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me.
Also see if your head unit has an update.

I thought I read somewhere that there are some owners who don't pay for the service and their fob's still work.

I bought my 2020 OR premium in Nov of 19. Recently I received an email from toyota saying my free trial is extended to Feb of 21. On the toyota site it mentions remote start if DCM is enabled, not sure if that means I'll lose the fob remote start feature as well as the app? Kind of expect it.

Pay $50K for a Pro + a monthly fee to keep your remote start working....that is BS but I know Toyota isn't the only auto maker going this route.

What do you mean if your head unit has an upgrade?

An update? Remote start via the fob wasn't working for a day or so. I looked into the software info and saw I had an update. The fob worked after updating. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but worth checking out.

    This right here.

We’re all used to subscription services, what’s some more? You want convenience? Pay for it. You’ll complain, but you’ll pay. The multinationals know this. What’s another $8/month for unlocking another feature?
It’s the Tesla model working it’s way into the entire industry.
Soon all vehicles will be equipped with the same ‘options’ and you’ll just pay for a monthly subscription to unlock ‘trim’ level and ‘updates’.

    This is just the beginning.

If I'm paying for a subscription service that provides a convenience service to a Tacoma. I want a Slurpee machine in my Tacoma.

They know people will pay because people are soft.
