2020 Tacoma remote start issue

    As per the pic below I get this msg on my Canadian Koodo (Telus) network when trying to even start the Toyota app from my phone. On WiFi it works fine, but that isn't practical to remote start my vehicle if there's no WiFi available. Anyone have any solutions or workarounds? Toyota really fucked up on this part.

    I emailed them at the email in the msg, but they told me to contact Toyota Canada (even though I'd bet it's the US who makes the app), and they haven't replied for a week now.

    Any useful help is appreciated, thanks!

    I don't have the availability. But my wife uses hers frequently on her Rav4. Maybe try turning OFF WiFi on your phone. This will force the app to use Cellular Data. May also check if you have Cellular Data enabled on your phone (On the app). Just my $0.02

    Thanks for the reply! I tried disabling WiFi, and ensured data was enabled on that app. So frustrating. I'm thinking they haven't enabled Koodo as a recognized network. I see you're in the US; maybe they're slow with Canada?

    reboot the phone via the power and volume down button, or pull the battery if you can. See if that fixes it. I work with phones every day, this solves tons of issues

    I don't think it's the phone, it's a Toyota compatibility issue. I did try it though, thanks anyway!

    Not even an option bro, it came with my TRD Sport! I had no idea until after I bought it.

    Did you know, the remote start works with the FOB alone? One of the many reasons I chose a new '20 over a '19 on the lot at the local dealer. I kept telling him it had it, and he didn't even know... Gotta press lock on the FOB 3 times, then hold it on the 3rd.

    Possibly try deleting the app and try downloading it again on cellular data. I’ve had this fix app problems in the past.

    Good to know. I asked my sales guy if the truck had remote start and he said it did not. I found the app on my phone when I got home, but now I will have to try the key fob.

    Many cell providers used to put a proxy between your phone and the internet, most have moved away from it now though. But for Toyota to say a proxy is insecure is fucking ludicrous. Look at the cell providers settings in your phone, you might find a way to turn it off, or talk to your cell provider. if you get to someone knowledgeable and explain you problem, I bet they know a way around it. Toyota will be clueless.

    Yep I'm familiar with that, but the rwnge is terrible. I need thw range for leaving work after nightshift. I was gonna have a cell remote start installed because of this and it would've functioned 1000x better. Very poor implementation on Toyota's part.
    Tried it, didnt work. I did confirm woth Toyota they're aware of issues with the Koodo network and are working on a fix. The lady was very helpful troubleshooting trying everything she could, but no success.
