Im on my second one. First one was all scuffed up full of metal shavings and scrached upon arrival and the pannels were from different lots do the finish did not match on them. They had me field destroy it and send me a new cover minus the hardware.

The second one shows up, also full of scratches, again more metal shavings, the seal part that plugs into the channel of the pannels wouldnt stay in the channel, and the whole unit was too long for my shortbed by just enough to contact the tailgate and prevent it from closing fully. I used the original hardware and rails installed the first time and i still spent 4 hours trying to push the cover as far forwards as possible and theres no way it fits (my first try with the original cover went in in under an hour and fit perfect).

When i called them they told me to reply to the original customer support email, so I sent an email about the issues on the second cover on Monday and still havent gotten a reply.

I am not at all impressed with BAKflips quality control.

EDIT: Got an email this morning and they had me drill a hole to field destroy the 2nd one. I've got to give them credit where it's due, they haven't hesitated or blinked an eye at sending out replacements to make things right. Sure wish their QC was on par with their customer service.

I got the OEM soft top trifold thrown in when I bought my Taco, but if I had to pay, I would go aftermarket for the price. Love how easy it is to remove/store if I have to load the truck, even if I am away from home.

I had a Retrax Pro on my Ram 1500 and had no problem with it. I put the Retrax Pro MX on my 2020 Tacoma last week. [IMG]

How well does it keep water out? Looking to do a carpet bed-liner inside, and want it to stay mostly fairly dry.

    Canada Eh!
Lomax is technically bi-fold. It’s a moot point for me though because it removes completely in a matter of seconds if I ever need full bed access.

How much does the rail system interfere with with use of the side rails?

The rails that support the cover itself are supported with two brackets that are bolted into the OEM rail on each side and then use a bolt in the rear of the bed for a 3rd point. I have 3 OEM Bed Cleats on each side - just slipped them in as I assembled the rail system. The 3rd is hard to see but it's there at the front of the bed.

    Mark,

Thanks. It looks like the cleats stick out a bit past the edge of the support bracket giving access to the end of the cleat without impeding it too much.
How supported is the bracket. I sometimes put bales of hay in the bed and they lean up against the sides on a 45* angle. The bales are about 90# apiece. So each side would have 3 bales leaning on the length of the support. Do you think it can support that or will it cause them to flex downward?

    Eric,

I think they would be fine. The support rail overlaps the bed edge by maybe a quarter inch along the entire length. The lower edge of the rail just supports the cover. And the cleats are definitely usable.

The only leakage I’ve noticed - and it is minimal - was from going through a high pressure touch less car wash.

As far as heavy duty retractable covers go, I would say Truck Covers USA is the best out there. Main reason being it's design. The cover has a quick release handle that allows it to roll up into it's 8x8 cannister (smallest in the industry). With a seatbelt-like strap, you can pull the cover back towards you, and can lock it every 12 inches. This is particularly why I liked truck covers USA over the competition like Retrax Pro. For that option, you have to go along the side of the bed and move the cover manually with your hand. Not ideal for parking lots or when any objects are along side the vehicle. As far as water going inside it does a decent job. Unfortunately tacomas seem to have larger gaps in their tailgates than other trucks. However, it does have a few drain tubes that work well.
