Thinking of getting a 2020 Tacoma $WD as a Toad for my motor home, going to install rear driveline disconnect if the front diff is free unless being powered, do I need to install locking hubs?

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
The front is auto disconnect. No need to change anything in the front.

The rear driveshaft is held in with basic hardware at the pinion. You could just disconnect it at the pinion and secure it up to the cross member or something. That's the cheapest way to do it and still very practical if you ask me.

Going to go with the driveline disconnect, this will be my full time.Toad. I thought it would be ok in the front as the drive shaft does not turn while going down teh road

New guy here. So if i am reading correctly i can disconnect my driveshaft and a 4wd Tacoma automatic transmission can be towed. Apparently the front wheels turning will cause the shaft inside the transfer case to turn and oil everything, including transmission. I currently have a 2015 2wd Tacoma with a driveline disconnect. But am looking to up grade to a 2020 Tacoma 4wd.Is the driveline in the 4wd the same length as the one in my 2wd? I am still a little confused about how it all works. Thanks for any and all help and information..

All you'd have to do is remove the driveshaft that goes to the rear axle. In normal everyday driving the front wheels turn the front CV axles in a 4wd, but since the 4wd system is disengaged (electro-mechanically) it is not turning much of anything else. If a 4wd truck turned all the 4wd system when in "2wd" then it wouldn't be in 2wd...

The drive line in a 4wd is different than a 2wd because you have a transfer case, so since that's "more" transmission poking out the back of the overall transmission the rear driveshaft is a tad bit shorter. Read = the final output shaft of the transmission is closer to the rear differential in a 4wd system compared to a 2wd system.

Thank you very much. How is the transfer case electro mechanically disengaged?. Is this just something that happens when the ignition is off? Do the front wheels turn the front drive shafts when towing? Fortunately I already have a drive line disconnect. Just have to find a shop to shorten the driveshaft a bit. I really appreciate your response and patience with my nany questions.

The switch on the dash tells the computer to move the actuators to engage 4wd.
