Brand new truck making popping sound upon startup. The most disturbing part is how dumb Toyota is playing on the matter for fear of having to recall or admit there is a problem. Putting this out there so you can make informed decision before purchase. Take it to dealer for diagnosis I'm told. No check engine light on= no problem as far as dealer is concerned. I'd like an explanation from a real Toyota manufacturer. Dreaming to expect accountability I guess. When I was buying truck I got 10 phone calls a day....now nothing. Thanks Toyota

    Welcome to TW.

So, did you take it back to the dealer for diagnosis? Did they at least explain what it was if they said it was normal? It might help if you posted a video of this popping sound.

If it's any consolation, my 2.7 has done this since new ... and I just turned 137k miles recently. My bet is most, if not all of the 2.7's do this ... it is nothing to worry about. Even the 2nd Gens do it.

a lot of issues and problems you may have can be found out very easily using either the search function here or GOOGLE search without having all the Monday morning quarterbacking about it may be this or maybe that

The cynic in me says that we'll be seeing a lot of people trying to scrape the barrel for any straw-grasping justification to unwind their upside down finances.

If your hearing a pop on start up, there’s a good chance there’s a weasel involved.

    Try another dealership.
Update us when you find out what’s happening.
    Best wishes on your ride.

I have the 2.7L also but I hear a pop after I shut the engine off. It almost sounds like a fan spools up under the hood and then there's a pop? I've always kind of wondered what it was but I've had the truck for nearly two years now and never had a problem.

I’ll try to get one but it’s kinda random not every startup . I’ll record my startups for a week to see if I can get something
