My dealer let me put down a deposit on a 2020 TRD Pro last week. I even have the spec sheet with VIN number. Price listed as $0 on the sheet but I'm getting it for MSRP.

Ur gonna have to pay a premium for 2020 in 2019. Believe me, that's what happens to me in 2017 for my 2018. $41,250 out the door. And that was a long 3-hour negotiation because $41,250 was the MSRP.

If you don't care for those techs and gizmos, you're gonna have an awesome deal for the 2019 model.

Thats exactly what my dealer told me, higher price and higher interest. I'm going with the 2019 because of that.

I already have approval from my credit union at a good rate, so I'm not too worried about that. If the dealer can beat them, fine. If not, oh well. Also I'm 100% not interested in a 2019 due to the lack of Carplay and power seats. 2020 it is, and I'm sure for a Pro I'll pay MSRP and I'm prepared for that.

This is me exactly. Have my two preferred dealers ready to set aside a voodoo blue OR as soon as MSRP is announced. Maybe I could be convinced to get a pro. I’m prepared to pay MSRP and if anything get 10% off some accessories. I’d already have the 19 pro if it had CarPlay but that’s a nonstarter.

+2 this as well. A 2020 is all I want. If for some odd reason I can't get the numbers together, then I'll consider a 19,but I will have gone through all possible dealerships before that point lol my bank will give me a damn good rate as well, shouldn't be hard to snag one

I'm not putting anyone or anything down, just trying to undertand. I have a 17, and have thought about possibly getting a 20 at some point, just depends on talking my finance manager into it. You guys know what I mean. Anyway, I'm an Android guy and am just trying to understand how good the Carplay thing is that everyone must have it. I have seen this in other threads as well. I get the electric seats, LED lights and what not, those would be nice, but it seems that having the Apple thing is a major decision point and am just trying to wrap my head around that.

    1. We have a new hands free law where I live. Car Play + Siri is actually pretty good at navigation, particularly with saved locations, plus I can start or change a podcast or music, hands free.
    2. Entune nav is terrible. Most manufacturer nav systems are terrible and they are outdated almost the instant you drive off the lot. Apple and google maps are updated constantly.
    3. The whole Entune UI is terrible. CarPlay decouples your indash UI from Toyota's crap system. It will be developed and updated over the course of the time I own the car (a big improvement is coming in IOS 13 for example). Entune is what it is when I drive off the lot. It isn't getting better and since it sucks now, it will definitely suck in year 5 of ownership.

The best UI designers in the world work for the phone manufacturers. UI/UX is basically an afterthought for the car companies.

Since you are an Android guy, you'll be more interested in Android Auto (AA) than Apple Car Play (CP), but it is good that both will be included in the 2020s so if you switch phone allegiances you'll still get the benefits either way. Basically running AA or CP allows you to interact with your phone in a more safe way by putting it up on your radio display with a simplified interface. You can do common tasks like play your music, use Google or Waze or other Map apps (which are superior to the built in nav app), initiate phone calls and messages via Assistant or Siri, etc. The apps have to be configured/programmed to work with AA or CP, so not all your stuff may work, but the stuff you would use in a car generally is. And you shouldn't be using your phone in the car anyway, right?! ;) (They just passed totally handsfree laws in my state, so it will be useful for sure.)

Thanks to both of you above for those explanations. Makes sense to me. I don't disagree with any of it, although I don't use my HU for much more than bouncing between Ozzy's Boneyard and Hair nation and quick dialing someone. I like having a live weather screen sometimes. I try not to use nav much, as an old scout, I feel like i'm selling out, but the older I get the less hard headed I am about it. Sounds like it will all be a big improvement. Thanks again!

In Kentucky you need live weather, on the West Coast, we need live traffic reports.

I am spiritually aligned with your anti GPS sentiment. I want to keep my skills fresh. At the same time, the real-time traffic report and Waze shortcuts can literally save 30 minutes on a normal LA/SF/Seattle commute.

I also think there is a generational shift happening where cars used to be the predominant source of freedom and economic security. For a lot of us younger folks (oh lordt am I almost 40?) the phone has replaced a lot of those functions. This taco is going to be my first new car since 2005. I have been a train commuter for the majority of my last decade of work. I’m married to this exobrain as much as I resent it. (And I do resent the pings and dings and little red dots)

I don’t think it’s and Apple thing. It’s a phone-centric youngster thing. Android auto is just as good if not better in some ways. For me, yelling song requests and reminders into my watch is a killer driving app.

+1 echoing the sentiment that the best UX designers are at Google and Apple and knowing that the experience is highly likely to get better, not worse with age is a huge factor for me. (Looking at you Tesla...)

The last point is that all the kewel safety features and video feeds are pumped through the screen. I DO trust Toyota engineers to make certain those work well with Apple and Google stuff. I don’t trust Pioneer aftermarket head units to do the same.

I am very excited for this truck. I like my wife’s old Impreza enough but the 2020 literally has everything I want except for an interior illumination option, which I can do myself.

Moonroof, 4wd, Keyless Entry, Bed, Ostentatious Blue, Power Rear Window, Cameras for Aggressive Urban Parking.

I was born in Detroit and I never thought I’d be waiting for a Toyota Truck but then American Midsized just aren’t what I am looking for right now. (If the Colorado had a Moonroof, that Orange Crush might have locked me down tho)

That pretty much sums up myself as well. Almost 40 (ugh lol) and going to be getting a 2020 Taco for my bday and was really hoping that were going to add AA and CP to the head unit. And by ostentatious blue one can only assume you are talking about Voodoo Blue :), that will more than likely be my color of choice as well since I love it on the 2019 Pro.

Thanks for that, and I can admit that I completely agree with your traffic sentiment. My sister lives in Redondo, and travels to Santa Monica for work (Fox News). I hear her bitching about traffic, but I'm told that routes not even that bad. I completely get how sucky Californistan traffic must be. Great points, thanks again.

I have had three TRD Sports and really liked them. Will most likely trade my 2018 for a 2020 but I am nearing 70 years old and am really considering a Limited. Can anyone in the know compare the ride quality of the Limited vs the Sport? Thanks.

The dealer I work with just emailed me and said they were notified this morning. They will receive their first 2020 Tacomas during the second week of September

Do you have any more details on when pricing and builds can begin? That's roughly 3 weeks out from today which means the 2020's are already being built - or will be in the next week or so. I believe the standard is 4 weeks from build to delivery on a dealer lot.

He did not have pricing yet. He gave me the list with the options of the Tacomas they are getting. 2 sports 8 off roads and a pro. Vood doo blue is now available on the none pro models.

Any differences in the options? Still just Premium and Tech packages? Are the new LED lights (or the other new options) listed separately or as part of a package? Wondering how they are going to integrate them into the ordering system.

Pretty sure ordering is a myth. They get allocations and can alter a few things which gives way to the "ordering" concept. I "ordered" my 17' but it was already a scheduled build they just picked one that was already being made and allocated it or put dibs on it. It came about 6 weeks later. Of course I am by no means educated in all aspects of ordering a Tacoma, that's just my experience.
