Good luck getting this point across, we had a pricing thread when the first 3rd gen trucks showed up and every page someone made this point, people still kept including them along with trade etc. Made me question the intellectual level of Tacoma owners a lot.

I agree it wouldn't make sense but the term 'OTD' is very misleading as it means what you pay to leave with the vehicle and this includes tax, dealer fees and DMV fees. What you are describing above is the price you are paying for THE TRUCK.

I've lived in a dozen states, it's different everywhere.

I'm in OK now, and what you're describing in the first paragraph is exactly how you do it. Buy a new car, dealership mails you the papers, you take those to the DMV, and THEN pay your taxes/title/etc. directly to the state.

CA, it was rolled into your purchase. Which pissed me off, because now you're financing your state taxes for 5 years as you pay on the loan. They wouldn't separate it from the the purchase price and let me pay that standalone either.

That's ridiculous, and quite frankly sounds incorrect. They can't FORCE you to roll taxes into your loan. In fact, some lenders won't even allow you to do that.

Bottom line is people should be quoting what they are paying for the truck and leave ANY other fees OUT of the equation - this is the definition of apples to apples.

I've only seen the latter, so it's all I'm familiar with, but the concept doesn't seem to difficult either way. Seems more just someone being pedantic about the terminology.

As far as financing the TTL, not sure why this is a big deal. I mean if you are that concerned just include those costs as part of your down payment or on the first payment of the loan.

    That's what I said!

But this was also 25 years ago...No telling what it's like today.

If you finance a new truck in Texas, all of the fees are typically part of the financing. I don’t think we have a law here that forces you to finance the taxes. You can probably pay that up front. I have never tried.

Very interesting point. So if I buy a truck in Montana where there is no sales tax, and drive it home to Colorado, I avoid paying sales tax? Or does Montana only allow this for their residents? As in, you pay tax where you call your "home"?

Your latter statement is 100% correct. You always pay taxes in the state where the truck is going to be registered.

I believe you pay taxes wherever you register it. If you live in Colorado and buy in Montana, you still have to register it when you get back to Colorado and you'll end up paying the tax when you go to the DMV to register it.

How some people try to get out of it is by setting up an LLC or other corp in Montana and buy and register the vehicle under that. That's why you'll see a lot of super cars with Montana plates. It's basically tax evasion and illegal, but people do it anyway since tax in somewhere like California can be 10%+, which on million dollar cars can get expensive (though if you have enough to buy a million dollar car, just PAY YOUR DAMN TAXES).

Shoot me a pic if you don't mind. Can PM to keep it out of this 2020 thread. Easy to get derailed with awesome upgrades to these trucks.

Thoughts on $750 under Invoice price for a OffRoad DCLB loaded.

    MSRP - $45,947
    Invoice - $43,022

$42,272 - The Purchase price before Taxes/License/Fees & any rebates from Toyota at time of delivery in January.
