This will be my first Tacoma. Everyone keeps talking about how good the new Ford Ranger and the Wrangler are going to be, and I do like them but only the Wrangler comes in a manual transmission and the European crash test score was a 1 out of 5. Only the Tacoma comes with good crash test scores and a manual transmission and good reliability. When I was younger I wouldn’t have cared as much about safety but now that I have four kids that is a huge concern. Anyway, the Tacoma has the best combination of reliability and quality and features and safety. I can’t wait to get a 2020 TRD Pro manual Lord willing. Even my wife is on board. We already have a Sienna and it has been great.

Too many but also not enough mods
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the score was so low because of pedestrian tests. Would still be bad at a 2 or 3 if you took out the pedestrian tests.

Its definitely not a Tacoma, but for a unibody small SUV it is very legit off road with multi terrain select and the new torque vectoring AWD system. Yea, throwing a TRD badge is kinda lame, but I like the adventure grade new rav

I couldn't agree more. Here is a little advise for others though, but when I bought my 2017, I had them swap em out for a size up 265/75r16 BFG KO2s. I had to pay the difference or whatever fee they priced me at which was around $400 and rolled that into the final price too. Not ideal, but sure better than paying full price for KO2s after the fact and yes, they should come with all-terrains regardless. So if your dealership isn't bunch a-holes, you can negotiate better tires during purchase for a lot less than getting them after the fact.

no i get it its not a tacoma i more of meant if they direct copied a tacoma TRD Off Road package

the only differences from the adventure is suspension , tires , wheels and TRD is stitched in the head rest its the same vehicle i think it also has like 1 inch of clearance over the adventure

rav4 are nice and all but when i think of TRD Off Road i think of Tacoma or even 4runner

even the guy in the video was like no your not gonna go rock crawling with the off road that's what the trd pros are for
the Rav4 trd off road is meant more like it can handle a fire road

i know I'm get but hurt over nothing but

in my opinion the Rav4 trd off road was a let down

here's the video im referring to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwna8tzVTk0

For sure. You can only do so much with a unibody SUV, and yes they should have left TRD off road to body on frame vehicles IMO

People keep saying the TRD OR should atleast have gotten all-terrains. Not for nothing, and yeah they look like all seasons, but Goodyear claims that tire to be an all-terrain... no?

Double edged sword. You put true all terrains and people will complain about road noise and wear.

Same thing when 2005 Tacoma TRD OR came with the BFG Rugged Trails

People complained because the Rugged Fails were shitty ass tires.

The Goodyears are AT tires, and decent ones at that. The might not have the puncture resistance of a load C or E tire, but they have yet to let me down on mud, sand, rock, snow, etc. As long as I air down, choose good lines and drive prudently, they work. If Goodyear would put garish lugs on the sides of the tires, I imagine there would be fewer complaints.

"All Terrain" is a unregulated marketing term for tire makers and it is applied to whatever they want to apply it too. There is a lot of "All Terrain" identified tires with very passive looking street tread designs. I remember the Dunlop AT20's that came on my 2009 Tacoma that Dunlop labels as an All Terrain but were no where near anything I would remotely call a AT tire.

Yeah that won't happen. They will most likely give you a software update or worst give you a new (same part number) head unit. Which is different than 2020 unit.

Even the honda civic si offers two tire options: all-season VS high performance summer.

Coopers will never come on a stock taco, would be my guess. But after putting the SEMA-winning AT3 4S on my truck 8 months ago, I can't imagine a slightly meatier, SL rated tire performing better while still being whisper quiet on the highway. I didn't want to add a bunch of weight to my truck but after 25k on the Wrangler Kevlars, I was struggling with horrible wet performance and cornering was terrible. Have about 15k on the coopers now, they are barely worn (11/32) and remain quiet and stay glued to wet pavement

Anyone think the 2020 tacoma will see the return of the manual transmission in the TRD OR?
