2020 Tacoma SR 4wd V6 auto double cab
Hi All! I just bought a brand new 2020 Tacoma double cab v6 4wd automatic, and it seems like this truck is taking a little longer to get up to operating temperature than it should, and the heater barely gets the cab hot by the time I get to work, 20-25 minutes. Morning temps here have been in the 20s. Is this normal? I really don’t want to take it to the dealer, and can’t bear the thought of some lot boy driving it around to see it gets warm, any thoughts?

def does not seem normal, what are your engine temps do they get up to normal? Mine heats up within 10 minutes even when parked outside, it was 15 degrees this morning and i turned it down from 80deg to 72

    Normal.

    Your truck have taint heaters?

If so, turn em up on nuclear.

It should warm up pretty quickly, these trucks even have an electric heating element to warm the air prior to the coolant getting warm.

My truck starts blowing warm air out pretty quickly... usually within 2 minutes from dead cold. The air flow to the floor vents is a tad on the weak side, but overall, the cab heats up pretty nicely.

    Interesting! Didn't know that

I wonder what condition(s) equal that thing firing up?

In the winter I put my temp control on "HI" and by the time I get to work it's comfortable.. maybe 15-20 minutes.

I'm probably 3/4 the way there before the temp guage starts coming up any amount.

Then again, I don't mess around with a lot of idling before stepping off either. Just until the idle sound changes and off I go (30 sec maybe?).

I've always been the type to let the car idle and get nice n toasty warm for the morning ride to work.....my 3rd gen has ran as long as 20 min after being parked in garage and the temp gauge barely moves, and not much for warm air from the HVAC either.

If there is a heating element to warm incoming air before engine is at operating temp mine sure doesn't work!

Between the super thin oil and tight internal tolerances, the V6 needs a load to warm up I guess.

Normal driving she warms up much quicker, and the heater about burns me out of the cabin when I have a warm motor.

My truck gets warm on a 7 mile drive to the gym, early morning, in the dark, temps in the teens.

Thanks, I did not know this! I've been freezing my ass off, with the fan off, until the needle moves some.

Wow, that must be a V6 thing. I start up and go after ~30secs, 2.7 is warm by the time I reach the end of my 1.5 mile long Co road in ~4 minutes. 19deg this AM.

Off the top of my head I cannot remember the parameters that fires it up, definitely recall it having to be below a certain outside temperature.

Seems to be taking too long. I have about a 12-15 minute ride to work (same or colder morning temps) and by the time I'm half way there the truck can blow superhot air at full blast. If I use the remote starter before hand (it'll only run for 10 minutes) the truck will blow hot air as soon as I get in it.

I had a 5th gen T4R before the Tacoma, and the Tacoma heats up more quickly. Conversely, the seat warmers warmed up faster in the T4R than the Tacoma, but the Tacoma's get much warmer! :D

My heater will melt my hands off if I keep it on high for too long.

Probably why I have warm air from the heater vents before the temp needle moves at all.

Well, they prob didn't explain this very well at the dealership, but that's the trade off for having such a 'cool' truck! (Sorry.......there is something wrong if it takes that long to warm up.)

It gets to what I consider normal (about half on the temp gauge) and the cab is comfortable after a 2 minute idle and 15-20 minute drive, but my wife’s rav4 will cook you out of there much faster

My drive to work is exactly 5 miles. Throughout the winter it doesn't hit the middle on the temp gauge until I pull into my parking lot. My 2nd gen warmed up a lot quicker. I think it's due to the large oil pan in the 3.5. Sometimes I turn the heater off completely to get it to warm up faster.

I’ve noticed my 19 takes one to two miles further before gauge comes up then the 18 did. Figured just a difference in thermostat but no telling
