Does anyone know why my 2020 TRD jerks forward even after it warms up. I have taking it to the dealer and they replaced the transmission, thinking that was the issue. It still does the same thing. Is this something I'll have to live with, or is there something I can do?

    thanks

Yes, they first thought it was the transfer case so they replaced it. Unfortunately, my tacoma kept doing it. So, I took it back in to toyota and they replaced the transmission. I have about 39,000 miles on it. This was all done on warranty, which was nice. I'm just not sure what to do now.
    Thanks

I'd have to drive it, but that sounds normal to me. My 18 year old Tacoma shifts into gear quickly when going to "D" or "R" from park. or from "D" to "R" and always has. With some vehicles there is a slight delay which I don't like

    Sounds like driveline slack.
Between the U-joints, Brake pads, transmission gears, and differential gear, there's a lot of "slack".

But, It's kind of hard to tell, since we really don't know how much it "jerks" forward.
Like how far does the truck move forward/backwards?

My 2017 does this but only when cold. I always figured it was the torque converter.

Do you push the brake pedal all the way down? In my '22 TRD OR, if I don't press the brakes all the way down, it'll jerk forward/backwards. It's like the top 50% of the pedal travel does nothing and all the braking power is after the top 50%.

What is your idle reading when in park? If it's too high then when you go into gear it will lurch ahead.

    No kidding!
OP, did you test drive some other Tacomas on the lot to verify yours is unique?

It reads just over 750 rpms, and it jerks forward just a slight bit, but enough to feel it. I have my foot on the brake pretty hard. I think my next step is to test drive another tacoma that's close to my year.

FWIW my 2014 immediately moves forward in D or backwards/R every time I shift it from park for the last 45 thousand miles since I got it: especially during the first 30 seconds or so if the engine is cold, and on initial high-idle. I think it's safe to say every auto-trans vehicle I have ever owned did this. Amazing they gave you a brand-new transmission for this.

Set your foot firmly on the brake pedal or apply the parking-brake before you shift it if you don't want it to move.

Ask them to check the IAC/idle air control valve (if equipped): dirty, worn or faulty. Nice (but crazy) of them to give you a brand-new transfer case too. What dealer was this? I could use a new transmission and xfer case too. :D

It seems a little crazy. It started with a rebuild on the lower block of the engine, then a new transfer case and to date the transmission. It's been some really bad luck with this one. I've started shopping around for extended warranties.

Actual facts and truth staring to slip out?
OK so maybe the vehicle doesn't actually move but there is a sensation or feeling of such.
I'm wondering how long you've owned vehicles and how many you've driven ?
A small pickup isn't like a luxury sedan.

Cold or Warm, my truck will take off to to at least walking speed with no foot on the brake on a shift to "D". Reverse is a little slower, but not by much. It's probably bad for the transmission too: similar to a slam shift from Reverse to Drive while it's still rolling backwards without stopping. I never do that either.

Sounds like the infamous Tacoma lurch. Toyota dropped the idle to 600 RPM at idle in gear to illuminate the issue.

They addressed this with a TSB by flashing the Engine Control Module and Transmission Control Module.

have someone take a video of your truck while you're inside putting it in gear. Then maybe we can get a visual of how much lurching it is doing. Have them stand back enough to get the whole vehicle in the shot.
