Losing 2 qts of oil between changes with only 20k miles definitely shouldn't happen with a healthy toyota engine. Its gotta be going somewhere. This use to happen on those old 3.0 v6 sludge engines toyota had after 75k miles.

I wouldn't go to straight 30W but a 5W30 conventional might help with the consumption.

That said I'd be fine with that rate on a 200k mi truck not one this new lol

He said his oil light is come on one and sometimes twice between the changes and he’s having to add 2 quarts each time it happens. For the dealership to say they can find nothing to indicate any problems sounds like total bs to me. If it’s really burning 4 per 5k miles there will definitely be a problem you can find without having to look to hard. I’m surprised it’s not smoking.

Nothing on the ground, and no oil that I can see under the hood. I will take a deeper look. The tailpipe smokes visibly anytime it's running (not just on startup or ion cold weather), so I assume it's burning it.

I burn less than 1 qt. per 1,200 miles, but that comes out to just under 4 or 5 quarts between oil changes at 7k intervals. That's unacceptable IMO.

I'd trade it in a heartbeat, if only I didn't have $40k worth of parts and upgrades on this thing :-/

I will take a closer look. Is that a warranty-able issue?

I use 0w-20 per the manual, and have had all my oil changes done by the dealership (whom I assume use the proper weight).

I, too, am a previous Subaru owner, and had oil consumption issues. The Subaru dealership gave me the runaround for over two years, until, finally, the class action suit forced them to warranty repair my engine. This is giving me PTSD.

My 2018 TRD O/R was the same. No oil usage between 5k oil changes. I am now regretting the fact that I traded it for this 2020.

If it’s smoking out of the tailpipe there is no way there aren’t legit issues.

It is part of warranty and an easy fix. You would see oil on the ground and not out of tailpipe if it was the timing cover.

My buddy who did all his oil changes at the dealer had his 5.7 tundra start burning oil that quickly turned into a new engine. All covered under warranty. Could have been something a a simple as a tech not using correct amount/weight of oil once.

A leak down test and cylinder compression test should be able to answer said question.

If only I didn't put all these CBI bumpers and custom parts into it, not to mention the color matched canopy. I think I'm screwed.

Dealership does all oil changes, but I have not verified levels directly after. I will going forward.

It's smoking. Albeit lightly, but the exhaust is visible 100% of the time it's running.
