3" lift, 33 falken tires, victory 4x4 roof rack.
Here is the situation, the truck is sitting on 33" falkens with a 3" leveling kit.

Took the truck to get an alignment done since the lift and tires were put on, waited an hour to get the truck back. I get the truck back and BOOM pre-collision system malfunction as well as a malfunction for the stability control shoot up on the dash. At first I didn't think much of it and cleaned the radar sensor and the little camera thing on the windshield. Went back into the cockpit and BOOM lights still there blinking at me. I call the shop and ask them what is going on?

The technician notes that he had the same problem after doing the alignment and says that it might be the electronic power steering system, or the steering position sensor.

I call up the local Toyota dealership and long story short we determined that something went wrong at the shop, the truck is a 2020 with 12k mines on it and should not even have this issue to begin with as stated by the person at Toyota. And just for reassurance I call up 3 different shops in the NW that do custom off road trucks such as tacomas and they say that they have never had that issue before.

I am currently waiting to take the truck into the dealership to see what's going on but my suspicions are high that the technician bumped something or that it may be steering position sensor but who knows.

If anyones had a similar problem please let me know what was done to fix the issue.

I have also reconnected the battery and the issue still occurs.

Update: It has been a few days since I took the tacoma to the Toyota dealership with this issue, long story short after waiting 2 hours I was told that the steering position sensor needed to be re-calibrated, or "zeroed out".

The system was re-calibrated and the issue was fixed, no issues yet after the re-calibration but will keep posted if anything comes up.

Having this exact same problem after completing a 2.5 inch lift with new upper control arms. Went to get an alignment and found the warning lights all on after the alignment.

Any updates? I assume recalibration was the correct fix.

Hello, I've already written an updated on my issue which was fixed. Please read the update paragraph.

Just as a note, if you are having the same issue Toyota will need to zero out the steering position sensor. This was not covered by warranty so brace yourself for a $140 bill.

did the dealership tell you they cant re-calibrate it because it was lifted? Because I’m having a problem with the my pre-collision malfunction and they said they can’t do it because my trucks lifted.

Not the same sensor. Yours is in the grille and his was a zero point calibration of the vehicle stability control.

how would these sensors get tweaked during an alignment? Wouldn’t it do this after the lift was installed?

Ive never heard about this until I went to FireStone a couple Fridays ago for an alignment.

Many ways. Usually a stretched wire.

Mine did it about 1200 miles after my lift and alignment randomly. Had the steering sensor zeroed 15k ago and not an issue one. Doesn’t happen to all these trucks but some of us are just lucky.

Seems random. I added a 2-2.5 inch lift with new UCA's and have not experienced it yet.

Having the same issue and after reading throughout forms I hope my issue is same as OP.

Quick backstory. My 2020 TRD OR has close to 50k miles and have had it lifted since about 1k miles. I recently went on a wheeling trip with a buddy and long story short bent my passenger side spindle. Replaced spindle and started my truck and all seemed well. Took it around the block and all I noticed I needed was an alignment. Went to drive to alignment shop and BOOM my traction light comes one and started getting message that my pre collision has a malfunction. Got my alignment. Drove truck home. Turned off truck and disconnected battery and after 10 mins reconnected and turned back on and bam same messages. So hopefully when I take it to dealership it’s just a recalibration of steering sensor.

lmk how that goes. I was denied from the dealership that they cant recalibrate because of my lift. I would need to go back to stock height for them to recalibrate which is BS.

Here with an update. I ended up not going to dealer and instead ended up doing the calibration myself with a OBD2 scanner from Amazon. It’s been 2 days and all is good. Attached is the scanner I bought it was $99. Make sure it has ABS function in order to do this. Hope this helps!

hey, so I bought the OBD2 scanner you used. What do you mean by make sure it has ABS function?

It's in the FSM to do a zero point cal after an alignment. Many posts on TW where shops are clueless on this. The steering wheel sensor monitors clock angle of the steering wheel. This is compared to what the accelerometers in the SRS module are seeing to determine if the vehicle is in a skid. Since an alignment can change the clock angle of the steering wheel, this causes a mismatch and flags the error message. The FSM has you put the vehicle on level ground and point the wheels straight, then tell the system this is the new 'straight ahead'.

The reason I say make sure it has ABS function is because the lower model scanners don’t have the ABS function and therefore won’t have the option to do the steering wheel calibration. As long as you purchased the same model I did you’ll be fine to do the recalibration.

I did buy the one you got and I see the ABS function on it. Every time I select the ABS, it just says no ABS DTC is stored in your vehicle

Is it just your pre collision light that’s on? Or stability control and pre collision? My issue was both lights were on due to steering sensor out of calibration. If just your pre collision is on than it’s a completely different issue and to me your TSS sensor is acting up. I read yours is lifted. If so how much? And what grill do you have? Pro grille?

Yeah its just the pre-collision light thats on. its lifted probably about 2.25? and im using the pro grille but its been lifted for like 2 years and ive never had the problem until it came up like 2 months ago. I'm thinking its the TSS sensor but they said they won't be able to recalibrate it unless I go back to stock height.

Ran into this issue today. 2” lift, stock TRD grill. Ran the truck about 5k miles with the lift, although this morning I started the truck on accident via Toyota remote, and have the /Panel and /IG1 No.2 fuses unplugged from my ARB OBA.

Plugged the add-a-fuse back in and it turned the system alert off.

My Pre-Collision Sensor has been acting up lately. My truck is stock height with 265/70/17 tires. I have an aftermarket Pro Grill and have had zero problems since I changed out the grill when I got the truck in 2019.

I worry if I take it to the dealer they will not warranty it due to the aftermarket grill. What is everyone else’s experience with this?
