Don't want computers tweaking the vehicle back and forth in the lanes or "lightly applying" the brakes because it saw a shadow....

Does anybody have an idea when the 2020 Pro wheels will go on sale? Or how much they will cost?

I've seen "safety systems" not TSS in this case, apply the brakes uneccesarilly, and nearly cause an accident.

Still don't remember anybody asking for these safety systems.

Probably some time after the truck is available for sale.

Simple risk analysis really. The likelihood of a system malfunctioning and causing a problem is much lower than the likelihood of human error failing to stop for a vehicle and rear-ending them.

Making it widely available will save more lives than leaving it off vehicles.

Many of the quirks like the system thinking there was an object when there wasn't, can be handled by redundancy of sensors. Adding radar on top of optical sensors reduces that problem greatly. The Subaru system uses optical cameras only, no radar. I did once have the system see a shadow that came out of nowhere (cloud moved, sun "came out") and it put on the brakes, not hard, no one rear-ended me, in fact I would describe it as "light braking" and brief, probably half a second, before the brightness on the cameras adjusted and it realized there wasn't a big black object in front of me.

So sure, one issue in 86,000 miles.

How many times has it truly stopped an accident that was occurring? Probably only twice at highway speeds, both of which were emergency braking events on the highway and it just flat out reacted quicker than I could have, since my foot was off the pedal while cruise control was on.

I'm not bothered one bit that you're inconvenienced by these systems if that means we're all safer.

My only experience has been with the Subaru system. I can't recall it preventing me from having an accident. The system has applied the brakes harder than I wanted to brake in stop and go traffic, cause a brake check like scenario to occur, along with slamming the brakes on while parallel parking, as if I was parking at any speed greater than 2mph. The parallel parking incident damn near gave me whip lash.

    I wasn't referencing a malfunctioning system.

My pet peeve is that NO automated system can adapt, react, and correct a vehicle, in real world driving situations that are always changing. The same way an alert, and competent driver can.

That "simplicity" is extremely expensive. For the average office going city driver, they are useful systems.... But how many people are more careless drivers because they know the car will "take care" of itself if they slip up?

My thing is this: learn to drive. Pay attention. If you can't do it, then don't. Someone else can drive. If you don't have that option, then learn. Relying on machines and computers to control everything, esp at this stage of technological development, is just asking for disaster. I understand that the systems get better and better every year

For me, I'm a driving man. I like my clutch pedal and my manual roll down windows (ok those are gone on the 3rs gen tacos) and my CDs and my Wd55 ac.

If the TTS system is there only to save pedestrians that step out on the road in front of you, I'd rather send him/her flying.... :curls:

+1. In a world in which people are constantly staring at their phones while driving down the road, these systems are essential and save lives everyday. End of story.

Agreed. My wife drove a Subaru Ascent before we purchased her '19 Highlander. Subaru's Eyesight may be a bit better than TSS IMO, but both are convenient once you get past the learning curve. Lane keep/assist took awhile to get used to, but is pretty sweet. After having adaptive cruise control, I can't ever imagine not having it. The only glaring draw back that I have noticed, is the tendency of TSS to slam on the breaks when in cruise control if traffic slows up ahead of you. I worry this may cause an accident behind me.

I agree we have a outback and it works better than the tacoma cruising around freeway corners with vehicles in adjacent lanes.

Overall. Great color... especially with a dark hood scope. A bit over the top, but still awesome.
