That's going to take some time to figure out since it's winter and there will likely be constant rain for the next few months. I won't really find out until summer and who knows what the dealership will say then.

Actually, with what you said, every time you drive it and it dries out, you'll know whether there will be spots or not. If it doesn't condense again, well, you're all set!

I'm actually thinking of hitting the taillight with a hairdryer but we'll see tomorrow what the dealership says. I'm supposed to hear from them in the morning.

Hopefully, that's the case for me, but I'll wait to see what the dealership says tomorrow about this.

Good luck at the Dealership, maybe they will swap them out.

Fingers crossed. That'll be the ideal solution. Then I won't have to wonder or worry about it.

You need to gently warm the whole tail light. If you heat the lens with the dryer, you'll dry what's on the lens but not underneath...

So take a breath, have a beer and see what they say. No need to get too wound up tonight, don't let this ruin your excitement over your new taco.

Yeah, luckily my dealership is pretty good but we'll just have to wait and see.

Exactly. I'd rather have foggy tail lights in my new tacoma than another blown 4L60E in my former Silverado! Perspective, my friend, perspective. (That shit is rare around here.)

It's been a few years since I installed them but I vaguely recall seeing drain holes in the bottoms of the assemblies.

There should be drains and one-way membrane-sticker-thingys. Let me look at my pics from last night, maybe I can see them.

Edit: looks like two vents and two stickers.

Interesting. Holes that lead directly to the inside of the housing? If that's the case then that would almost ensure condensation.

That's what I am thinking, but like I mentioned it's been almost 3 years since I installed them.

Sort of, yeah, but it's a little counterintuitive. The vent rate from the expansion of warming air and importantly, greater expansion of vaporizing water in the sun compared to the expansion of just warming and cooling air is different enough that it averages out. See: every other car out there, tacos included.

In theory, if the system works properly and it does average out, then there shouldn't be condensation or at least an excessive amount (like mine). But that's just an assumption. The system could just be flawed and allows a good bit of condensation and most people just don't notice it.

Yup and because innocently or otherwise, a change may look good on paper (or computer screen) but might not work out in reality and have some quirk you never expected. If you don't update here, PM me with the outcome, I'm really curious. Good luck!

    There is an update!

I’m currently at the dealership and the current word is that there is a problem. They currently have the truck and are going to take some pictures so they can file a claim. It still needs to be approved by Toyota so theoretically the claim can be denied but at this point, it seems like I’ll be getting some new taillights.

Nice! Are they thinking that some (small) amounts of condensation is ok?
