A 7” wheel is too narrow for proper (285+) tire. So if it’s a different width/offset it’s not really a knock off it’s a design improvement.

So min. width should be 7.5 or 8”. Any wider wheels and positive offsets are more likely to induce rubbing or will require additional trimming. But that #stance.o_O

285’s with 0 offset it just past flush with the fenders.

Personally I want to see a LT specific wheel that minimizes track with increases.

Hey sure. I’m not thinking for a minute I’m going to stop these knock-off wheels from being sold, and Toyota’s success or failure at selling OEM wheels is not really my problem.

I am very curious to see if these reproductions have any legitimate safety approvals. That at very least, is a question I’d like everyone to seek an answer for, as it affects us all.

Like, if your unapproved knock-off wheels disintegrate after hitting a pot hole, and you roll over onto a group of orphans waiting for the bus, you should at least be ready to explain yourself.

Are these wheels tested and approved for North American roads? It’s an honest question OP should answer.

I got nothing more to add.

    FIFY?

As the link you referenced mentioned, JWL strength test standards are generally accepted worldwide for all roads. All of our wheels meet or exceed JWL strength test standards and are stamped with the JWP lettering to prove it. Not to mention we offer a lifetime structure warranty on all of our wheels.

In regards to replica wheels being of "poor quality" we're aware that there are companies out there giving reps a bad name by often times selling subpar products. However, there are a select few that do offer a quality product for the price. Additionally, most if not all of our wheels are offered in various offsets, sizes, finishes and even construction other than what is available through OEM specifications. Which is what oftentimes we see people interested in and why we're in the market. Therefore, we feel we are improving on an already existing design with our replica variations.

Hope this helps clear things up

    Edit: JWL lettering

No worries, I appreciate the concern as you're not the first person to bring this up. We try and be as transparent as possible with our products as this is a common question for anyone looking at replica wheels as an option on their vehicle.

Im all for this. Last time i wanted a OEM Toyota special wheel i couldnt get it because it was locked to a VIN and was unavailable unless i owned that vehicle. Im sure this will be the same with this 2020 pro wheels. Im very interested on getting a set for my taco in 16×8 OEM specs.

Yes. I still have my reservations about the idea of matching/copying the design, but appreciate you are at least putting safety on the agenda, and being forthcoming with that.

You should figure out who designed the wheel for Toyota...the actual person.....and name your version after them. That might be a fitting tribute to someone’s hard work and creativity.

Anyways......Im sure you’ll sell a lot of these wheels. They will look cool on other colours I’m sure.

That's a neat idea. Will need to do some digging but I'm sure his/her name is out there somewhere.

When would these possibly be available? I assume we would have to wait till the OEM ones hit market first?

Hard to say as of now. I need to check in with our production team but I would assume once specs are finalized they would look into starting at least a small batch. The point of this whole thread was to gain some insight from the TW community regarding specs and finishes.

This is solid research on your part and good on you for doing it. I’ll say this - the most common tire size on here is 285/70/17 with some other variation of the same size with different rims 16” and 18” (for the drop bracket crowd). If I were you, I would pick the minimum rim width for these sizes and go with that and an offset to reduce rubbing. Anything wider, with an offset to clear UCAs will rub body mounts. 17s will appeal to the 4Runner crowd as well.

I totally agree with these points! With an exception - don’t produce your product in south east asia. Period. By saving manufacturing costs there, you’re essentially asking for corporate espionage. At this point it isn’t new, and it’s well known. It’s akin to leaving your doors unlocked in a bad part of town.

The same members of this forum that flip shit if a roof rack looks remotely like a prinsu have been buying RTIC coolers and knock off trd pro grills since their inception. It’s perception and not principle.

@Johnny77 Take a page out of FN Wheels book based on how they manufacture the FX Pro and you will hit gold! Thr Fx Pro wheel is lighter, slightly wider, offered in various colors, made in China NOT Thailand like the oem junk, offered in a 16" which the oem is not, and flow formed. FN Wheels did the same thing you are doing now by asking/testing the market and asking us on Tacomaworld. I talked to Dustin the owner of FN Wheels pretty extensively last month when i stopped by his warehouse to buy my FX Pros. Years ago when the TRD Pro Semas came out, they came on Tacomaworld and put it out there to get member's feedback before they created the first mold and start selling their first batch of fx pros. The rest is history.

Looking at the spoke on the bottom of the wheel, I see a capital letter "A". If you can machine the "A", leave the rest black/colored, that would look cool. I didn't think I would like my OR machined wheels, now I love them.
