    I was thinking about putting a grille guard on my Tacoma. I'm curious if others have done this and what is the impact on gas mileage.

    I believe I would do a armor bumper with hoops or just leave it stock . A brush guard is not a bad look don’t get me wrong but that’s all it really does .

    Most people recommend not to go with those because they don't protect from much and cause more damage if an accident does occur compared to if the truck didn't have that.

    Stock AF. My 68 Bronco and 2000 2.5RS get the mods.
    Yeah... if I hadn't had one on a previous truck I wouldn't have wiped off the side of a dodge stratus and also wouldn't have needed a new hood from the brush guard slapping down and denting the hood in the collision that wouldn't have happened. Funny too, the brush guard didnt protect much when the truck rolled off into the woods when the parking brake failed and it also popped out of gear. That required a new bumper. (Not a Tacoma.)

    p. 42 of 608 in the owner's manual:

    "Do not dispose of your vehicle or perform any of the following modifications without consulting your Toyota dealer. The SRS airbags may malfunction or deploy (inflate) accidentally, causing death or serious injury.
    • Installation, removal, disassembly and repair of the SRS airbags
    • Repairs, modifications, removal or replacement of the steering wheel,instrument panel, dashboard, seats or seat upholstery, front, side and rear pillars or roof side rails
    • Repairs or modifications of the front fender, front bumper, or side of the occupant compartment
    • Installation of a grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar, etc.), snow plows, winches or roof luggage carrier"
