Hi to all! I am new to this site and looking for a little advice from current owners on my upcoming purchase.
I currently own a 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4 WD. Its been a beast but its time for a new truck. I will be switching to the Tacoma for 2020 as I feel the Tundras are just too large and I prefer the overall look of the Tacoma's.
I have my choices down between the Fully Loaded TRD Sport and the TRD Pro. I am not concerned about the price difference between the two. I generally do not do a lot of Off Road Driving, however I am on Dirt Construction Sites All day and usually Roads with a lot of potholes and bad pavement. I have heard that the TRD Sport is a better everyday road drive than the TRD Pro. Can anyone tell me if that is really true to a point where there is a significant difference. One of my must is the the Hood Scoop. I am in love with the Army Green and the upgraded differences the Pro has to offer such as the Fog Lights, Grille, Black Rims, Interior Stitching, etc. but concerned about the ride if I am on the highway or long road commute.
Can anyone with some experience between these two help me out with some opinions please? Thanks to all in advance!

I would get an extended or overnight test drive of both models to see how they feel to you on the roads you regularly travel.

Pro all day. Not even a contest.

if you have money, go pro. If you are on a budget, get the pro.

want the bitches? Get the Pro. Want the bros? Get the pro.

    Welcome to TW.
I have a Sport and will tell you the suspension is stiff. I have not driven a PRO, so I can't compare there, but if I were going down the roads you describe, the Sport is probably not the best idea. One option may be to get the Sport and see if you can get some take off suspension from an Off Road.
Otherwise, it sounds like the Pro is what you really want/need anyways.

I own a Pro and the ride is plush and comfortable. The Fox shocks are incredible, Pro all the way.

The Pro suspension will make the truck ride "softer". It will have more body roll when turning and such but will also take on rough roads and imperfections more comfortably than the Sport. Is the difference night and day? I am not sure and even then comparisons like that vary from person to person so if possible I'd say drive them both through various types of terrain.

If it were me in your position, I'd get the Pro since money isn't an issue.

If money is not an issue, just get the pro! You'll be a lot happier with the nicer options in the pro. (headlights, wheels, leather, suspensions, fog lights, and other misc. little upgrades)

    LS1 swap with nitros.
If you are on dirt and bumpy roads, get the pro. The sports firmer suspension is not as forgiving to bumps etc, and the lesser amount of sidewall on the Sports 17" tires vs the PRO's 16" will give a bumpier ride as well.

You will also retain an even better resale value with the PRO.

A Sport on a construction site would be painful unless you are willing to pull the sway bar. With it gone, I like the ride on and off road. Just an FYI, the Pro and Sport share the same sway bar, but I have not ridden in a Pro.

Way back, I worked summers on road projects. The Taco is the right choice, but . . .

I don’t understand why Toyota even makes the TRD Sport.

Because is suits the uses of 98.2% of Tacoma owners that never go off road, but might use 4WD on a boat ramp or in snow.

A better question would be “I don’t understand why Toyota even makes the TRD Off-road?” but that would be ignoring the current fashion trends.

Make the hood scoop an option, or part of an option package?

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I’m one of those 98.2 percenters. I have the Sport because I drive mostly on paved roads. But 4x4 for the boat ramps and security of extra traction while I travel the country.
I often wonder why people spend more for the ORs then rip them apart and fill them with aftermarket gear.
But really I just bought it for the scoops extra horsepower.

    the pro suspension is fantastic.

The sport suspension is firmer aka “sportier”

army green is awesome, wish it was available when I bought my tundra

get the taco with 3 pedals

I’ve done 40k+ miles a year in my OR, you can log tons of miles in these trucks with no issue. Plenty of 8-14 hour days on the road, 500-1100 miles

I’m not knocking anybody’s choice of a vehicle. I’m glad not everybody likes what I like.

My late sister in law had a 4Runner Sport. I wanted to buy it, but her brother wanted it too so I kept my mouth shut. He lived in Nebraska, so I’m sure it saw plenty of snow. Sure was a nice rig.

Why not look at the TRD off road as well It has a softer suspension than the sport. It is a happy medium between the two

The OR with a scoop is really the best of everything including your wallet.

If you're set on choosing between those two, the Pro is the overwhelming winner.

I'm glad I found this thread. My choice is between a 2020 OR, and the 2020 Sport. I have driven the off road, but I have never driven the TRD Sport. I eliminated the Pro because I absolutely need a 6' bed as I use my truck bed daily. If Toyota let me have things my way, I would buy a TRD Pro Access cab. I could get all the upgrades, leather seats, and a useful bed. I guess their bean counters don't think that would sell.
