Just got a 2020 TRD off road over the weekend...My 9th Toyota 4x4 and my third Taco...I finally found a low mileage manuel truck...When I'm rolling down the road and barely touch the gas the engine sputters..You can really feel it in 4,5 and 6th gear...I'm the third owner and the truck only has 14k miles on it...Any suggestions before I deal with the dealer???
    Thanks!!
    Keep the rubber side down!!!

If you find a resolution I would love to hear it.

Could try unplugging the acis valve

Maybe, that word can mean different things to different people.

It's ok at most steady speeds but any sort of acceleration below 3000 rpm and it's far from smooth. Slightly better at higher throttle and worse at low to mid throttle inputs.

I describe it like an old 2-stroke with bad plugs and off the pipe.

When this happens in gears 4/5/6, what are the engine RPMs? Vehicle speed?

...and what size tires are you running?

What rpm when it sputters? I’m wondering if it’s just lugging the engine? The 3.5 likes to rev.

My '20 6M does all kinds of strange things when it comes to fuel delivery. First start up of the day it stumbles for a few seconds in reverse or 1st/2nd gear. Going down hill with no throttle sometimes it seems to speed up when you would expect a manual trans with the throttle closed it would slow down. Going downhill in cruise control forget it. Fast slow fast slow back and forth. I always attributed all this with the fuel pump issues. My VIN was not in the recall so it's probably a design issue and 'it is what it is' situation. Until it croaks Toyota is not going to do anything about it.

    Nonsense.

It should drive just fine at low rpms, unless you are flooring it at like 1000 RPMs trying to go uphills.

Hm. Mine was never like that. Stock/tuned, doesn’t matter.

It's all stock with zero mods...If I'm doing 60 mph in 6th gear let the throttle off then slowly get back into the throttle it sputters..
Great power and top end...Only when I'm feathering the throttle...

Mine has done it since new, maybe even a touch worse now. Unplugging the acis may have helped a little, I don't know.

Watching my fuel trims it is pulling fuel out when off throttle. Then, when you very slowly roll into the throttle it starts adding fuel to the fuel trims, then at a stupid low throttle amount the fuel trims just STOP increasing. After that point it feels lean.
You can watch the trim start clicking up as you roll into the throttle, then between 3% and 6% added fuel the trims just stop and ANY throttle above that keep using the same trim value. Iirc load was about 40% or so when it locks out

You shouldn't row gears and lug the motor. Try a little more throttle and you progress through the sequence.

I'd take it back to the dealer service department and let them mess with it. Is this your first manual? Maybe give er some moar gas when going through the gears and keep the rpms up? :burnrubber:
