Just hit 11k on my '21 TRD OR 4x4 DCLB. I have recently noticed when sitting stationary facing uphill, if I let off the brake while in DRIVE without accelerating, the truck will begin rolling backwards and in pretty short order will begin making a clikitty clack gear noise which I don't allow to occur for more than a second before I then hit the brakes and power forward and it seems to travel forward as normal.

This has just begun and I do not recall in its early lifetime that it would do this. Previous automatics have always had a holding feature that would leave you planted when stopped facing uphill.

I'm making an appointment at the dealer, of course. It's getting the 10k check-up w/o oil or rotation since I'm doing that and its seen 3 oil changes already but they can at least log the visit for inspection plus my tranny squawk.

    Anyone experience similar?

How long does it take you to move your foot from the brake to the gas??

The clicking is the traction control system engaging.

it is the TC/ABS system attempting to prevent rolling back any further, I thought my transmission pooped the bed the first time I heard/felt it. I think since the TC is engaged it limits forward progress for a split second, thus giving a slipping (trans) like feeling.

I hadn't noticed whether my traction control was on or off. I've always had it engaged. Guess I'll check.

Since you have an OR, go ahead and try the crawl controls, you will most likely hear the same racket and come to understand that is how it works. Any vehicle I have owned has had a noisy ABS system and that is what it uses to control wheel slip/speed.

I'm super familiar with Crawl Control and the clacking sounds "somewhat" familiar. Sounds more like a pawl attempting engagement, to me. I'm just afraid to keep rolling backwards to see the outcome.

I never experienced the issue in the previous 10k miles, that's why I suddenly question it.

Normal. I forget the name, but it's an automated system that keeps you from rolling backwards down hills by engaging the brakes.

My sr5 will start rolling backward's if i remove my foot off the brake when stopped on a steep hill. It won't make any noises though. I just feather the gas pedal till it stops rolling back.

Well, it looks like I'm in good company. I'm still gonna squawk it and a few other minor little quirks that make me wonder about my tranny fill.

Just odd that it didn't crop up till now because I've been on plenty of hills in my year of driving this.
    .
My old school Turbo 400 in my old 4WD Cherokee had a hold feature as did other automatics I've owned/driven but whatever. I'm not alone on this one.
