I have 21 Offroad with both, no issues. I installed them myself, the bed lights were extremely easy. They use a pre made wiring harness from the drivers side tail lights. The tailgate lock was pretty easy too, just have to lay on your back and attach a bunch of zip ties. This ties into a wiring harness under the passenger side dash. They definetly do not use the same power source.

I installed both oem bed lights and tailgate lock on my 21 Sport. Everything is plug and play, no issues. Someone is giving you bad intel.

Even if you wanted to plug one into the other, they are totally different housings. Plus, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense unless you wanted your bed lights to flash every time the truck is locked or have the tailgate unlocked every time you turn on the cargo or something :) But yeah, as stated here before, that are two totally separate harnesses. Even on the pre 2020 where they aren’t prewired, it’s still two totally separate things.

Find another dealer that knows what he's talking about as what he told you in incorrect.

Keeping it simple and OEM, Tailgate Letters, Bed Lights, Power Tailgate Lock, Exhaust Tip, Peragon Bed Cover, Ham Radio Install.
I am about to install the Power Tailgate lock and installed the Bed lights a few weeks ago. I found this thread because the instructions actually state under conflicts "MY19 Tacoma Bed Light Kit" and was googling why/how to work around. That said I think it is an issue specific to the 2019 Model Year (researching the 2016-2019 bed light kit it appears wire harness isn't preinstalled and maybe uses the same holes?) and I see no reason it won't work in later years.

I can only offer that my 2017 has OEM bedlights installed at the factory (or port) from new when I got the truck. I installed the OEM power tailgate kit (passenger side) with no problem several years ago.
