I really want to upgrade my head unit to something that has Android Auto but don't want to spend a fortune because I probably wont have this truck more than a year or two. I've found some 2021 Corolla Head units (model# 86140-02e70) that LOOK the same and seem to have the same feature set as the 2021 Tacoma's, I was wondering if anyone knows if this would work? I know my 16' Tacoma will need hardness adapters for the Entune 3, I found for another $230(!!!) I can get that here autoharnesshouse.com.

Seems like if this would work, it'd be around $600. Seems like its still much cheaper than a comparable aftermarket and I'd like to maintain OEM look. Any better/cheaper options?

Have you looked aftermarket? Had one of these Pioneer units installed in my Pathfinder(had to dirch the tape deck). It has CarPlay and Android Auto. Wasn't terribly expensive, I think was 6 or 700 after install. Granted this was almost 6 years ago.

    Did you get speakers, too?

Lol, funny you mention. When they installed it, it blew the stock speakers. Pathfinder is a 2004.. it had 59k on it at the time of install.

This is that f’n slope I keep hearing about. Seriously considering a portable setup and just sit it in the bed. Waiting 12 years, now. My radio plays at one volume and the station presets work; that’s it. Dude at work has a cheap portable that sounds great

You’re probably the only person attempting to use a Corolla head unit on a 2016 Tacoma. I doubt anyone tried this. Personally, I wouldn’t spend $600 for a head unit so that I have an android auto. The only reason I use android auto is for the GPS. I can easily use my phone and live without. Specially for a truck that may not be kept over a year or two. I rather keep the $600. Sorry I’m not helpful to your question at all.

if it’s the same for high chance it will work. The Tacoma and sienna for example used the same headunits early 3rd gen. If they haven’t changed that could also be an option

Right. Then after you’re done… some suicidal moron drives into your truck and totals it

It's all up to you. Do what you need to. I'd ask around at some audio shops. See what they say. But price shop it. If you are going to pay for something, get what you want. I really enjoy the Android Auto. I like having the maps on the screen for when I travel. I actually had the USB port hidden inside the center console so I wouldn't have wires all over the place.

Fwiw...Put a pioneer 2400nex in my 2016 sr5. The cost was $300 for the pioneer, and 170 for the idatalink harnesses to keep steering wheel function. I have installed previous in dash units. This install took me about 2.5-3 hours and it was my first go with the idatalink.

NEX, that's what I have. Don't remember the exact model number, but it has been a fantastic unit.
