    I have a 2021 O/R, msrp $ 44,500 with 20k miles.
    Excellent condition.

What is a fair difference to pay for trading into a 2022 O/R, same msrp.

Perhaps someone has a constructive idea how much a Tacoma depreciates in one year and how much depreciation in 20k miles.

Facepalm. What is with this “must have the very latest and greatest” thought process these days. What a ridiculously spoiled state some people live in. You already have a nice new truck. There aren’t even any differences between 21 & 22 ORs. Keep the one ya got.

It's your chedda brother; that number is whatever you can live with going down the crapper for what on the surface appears to be very little gain.

Hard call as the market on used Tacoma’s is still inflated, I would think the dealer would give you 40K

Typically with normal milage, a Tacoma will depreciate 1000$ per year.

My OR is a year old in a couple of days. I want a new truck.

Just kidding. My 2021 is great. I don’t want to go anywhere near a dealer.

Go talk to a Toyota dealer.

Don't be surprised when you are required to pay an additional $5-10,000 for the 2022.

    Good Luck with your trade.

According to KBB, my 2021 has appreciated $7,500 since I bought it in May based on private party sale value. Totally crazy. What the OP's truck has actually depreciated (or appreciated) will depend on what he paid for it. Keep in mind that you are buying in the same crazy, inflated market that you are trading into. I could see this if you said you made a mistake buying your Taco and you need a Tundra or you're going to a 4Runner. We all make mistakes and sometimes they are expensive ones. But unless you have money to burn I'd think twice about spending a chunk of cash to end up with the exact same thing, just 1 model year and 20k miles newer. And FWIW, when you walk into the sales dept. of a dealership "what is fair" has nothing to do with your transaction.

KBB is overinflated though, as a Consumer can buy a new 2022 less than what KBB suggests as TI value.

Because the KBB on my 2021 o/r TI books more than msrp of a new 2022 off road.

Put it in Carvana. That will give you an idea of what it's actually worth.
If you get a crazy high offer from Carvana, lock it in.

You haven’t been paying attention to the market the past 8-10 months.

Agreed.. Vroom is even slightly higher but would need to be 10% higher than what a dealer quotes for TI.
As in WA you pay sales tax on net difference of transaction.
