Not hostility. Tired of the same BS answers. When someone asks how to add a CD player to Tacoma, TW standard answer is "rip 'em to MP3". That's not a solution.
Putting in an USB Cd player or another Toyota player that has a CD player are the solutions.

I like the way you're supposed to be the hostile one when those other guys are calling you and the OP ignorant, lazy and backward for wanting to play CDs.

Installed a cheap external CD player in console storage forward of stickshift (A.T. gear selector? Never had Auto before...).
It spins constantly, so added USB on/off switch. Had to try three switches from Amazon to find one that transmitted data not just power, despite their erroneous ads claiming they did so.
Had also tried and returned the FM/Bluetooth tranmitter option, very poor sound.

Appreciate the options folks have suggested or tried in this and other forum threads.
Nope not going to do USB sticks. They short out bridging the Generation Gap.

In earlier days we made our own music.

    Any pics?

I remember using the FM modulator style transmitter long ago..it sucked but it worked short term till I could get my install done.

Got an Amazon gift card for Christmas, so I decided to give the USB CD player a try. Tacoma is specifically on the list of vehicles it will work with. Should be here this week. Will let y'all know.

    Eagerly awaiting.

I remember using the tape adapter fix in the 1990s, worked well

I have one of those and works good, a little clunky but plays music just fine.

It workrd. Tried both factory and burned CDs. The only gripe I have is that it does not display song name or artist's name, just Track 1, 2 etc.
Player fits nicely into the wireless charging cabby.
Have not decided if I will keep it. At $149 I expected it to work 100 percent. May return it and try a cheaper option.

Not sure if there's a compatible cord but maybe the old style player (Discman)? If you're not going to get the naming stuff that would be a lot less money if a cord exists from 3.5 to USB

Is there a way to get the 3rd gen head unit (stock, or a replacement) accommodate inputs from both a CD and Android USB maps simultaneously? Willing to hardwire something.
The USB port only lets one or the other run.
Android maps do not work on Bluetooth connection, must be physically plugged into USB.
We are long distance traveling 400-500 miles a day about 30-40 days a year, using CD player and running Waze traffic avoidance on Android phone which has to remain disconnected and runs down.
