So my dilemma is I want to go, but I already saw the trains and the B52 crash site. I might pop up to Bar Harbor and Acadia, and then meet up with you guys. Hopefully someone is arriving late, and can join me, since I suck at navigation

there’s a thread for a trip up that way over Labor Day or Columbus Day weekend. But let me know if y’all end up there. I’m set on nmw this year for Memorial Day but if there’s another weekend y’all hit vt I would be down.

yeah we take it for granted. I spent years up there but I went all the time. I’ve summitted Cadillac more times than I can count. Only once I left and moved south (Providence) did I really appreciate it. The closest we have to that down here is mount Washington and the white mountains which isn’t that much less of a drive than MDI anyway.

I don't know anything about GMRS or HAMM, so more research needs to be done there. I have a few CB's from highschool and figure some comms is better than none. I'll have one for this trip, but looking forward I need a more reliable communication system.

Acadia isnt really worth it IMO. But I suppose if its like a bucket list thing for you, then you may as well hit it up while you're in the state haha

We all grew up around these tourist destinations. For us it's just another hill, just another town, just another ice cream shop, just another road, etc. It's me with Old Orchard Beach. Once you work there and live there, you learn how the town runs and keeps the gears turning. Now I can go to any beach town and it's the exact same thing everywhere. So for us, Acadia is just another road.

At least that's the way I see it. Living near/at something changes the way you look at it.

Lots of camping there, and bar harbor is a cool spot to see. But once 6ou live in Maine you get over it quickly, like you and DC.

I don't know if you'll be able to camp only 1 or 2 nights though, since it's a holiday weekend.

ehh its just a bit underwhelming IMO. Though if you do hike to the top of one of the little hills theres some good views of the harbor. Also, I would suspect earlier in the year will be better than later in terms of crowds

That's what I'm finding in OOB :( I'm seeing most a 2 night minimum for the holiday weekend. But there's plenty of spots around MDI chances are you can find something for a night, probably more likely to find Sunday night than Friday night.

I've never been up there for Memorial Day weekend but I can only assume it's swamped. Typical season is to have a spike for memorial day, then a lull while school is still in, then 4th of July typically kicks off the main tourist season, first and last weeks of August are the most popular after that.

...I spent way too much time in a tourist town :(
