Buy an older Land Cruiser. Mine was only $9500! Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

I dig the look of a 70 series. I have been in a few in my travels, they ride like shite. Very similar to an old Defender 90/110. Both are excellent options and are quite nostalgic of a simpler time. Both are archaic and gussied up tractors. I would prefer a chopped 200 series. Some of the luxuries and creature comforts of a modern vehicle, some awesome capability and functionality.

New Land cruisers are for rich people who don't want to look rich, even though everyone knows it.

Sorry, the LC will outwheel them all even with all season tires. But it is expensive.

The I6 in my 96 LC is a tractor motor but they put an aluminum head on it. The trans is from Japanese city busses and rarely hear of a failure. When the V8's came out in 98 that changed but still ultimately reliable.

My 1996 was $45,000 new in 1996. So doubled in 25 years.

Nobody knows it. Average person thinks it’s highlander. Fine by me. Mostly people who live outside of the usa appreciates it and knows what it is.

hilarious to see people comparing LC to Caymans and Boxsters. I can buy a 996 turbo for the price of new tacoma - doesn’t mean they are interchangeable .

I paid 17,000$ for my new 86 land cruiser

    I paid $22,000 for my fj62 1989 land cruiser

    I paid $46000 for my lx450

    I paid $68,000 for my 05 lx470

I paid 87,000 for my 2020 Heritage Edition

Other parts of the world you can buy $43,000 stripper land cruiser. Whcih is what I need. However in usa we get the fully gussied up one

Funny all the LC bashing in this thread, my tacoma costs $43,000 and isn’t half the quality of my land cruiser. Taco is much worse

come join us on ih8mud and see what all the fuss is about ;)

Well $45k in 1996 and $90k today. lol. Seems my math is correct. I wasn't talking about actual comparative worth.

Gussied up? This model has you paying more to delete the third row seat.

This LC is ugly in boring way. It would be better if it had a manual part time 4wd transfer case.

People think I am ugly too. So that I drive an ugly land cruiser is fine by me

I wish my tacoma had a manual transfer case too like my FJC. But oh well.

porsche charges to delete parts too ;) as does my lotus Exige . It’s not abnormal .

yes stripper LC other parts of world $45k
Here much more because it’s loaded up with options that most of real (not poseur) LC owners dont want :)

But hey they sell every LC imported. You don’t have to buy one :) no one is forcing you too

It's ugly in a good way. I like that the 3rd row is gone.

When you say "higher build qualities" would that entail reliability?

Clearly two vastly different markets so a direct comparison is kind of moot point, but I'm willing to stake the LC 200 build quality in terms of reliability is well ahead of the Porsche. Not hating on the Porsche here, but the Landcruiser is known for its build quality. Having lived with a 2006 911 cabrio that had a base price of $90k new, at 6 years of age the dash was broken, vent rings were falling out all the time. The center of the console would pop out over hard bumps, which wasnt rare as the ride was stiff. The convertible top leaked, although that's not uncommon for any vert. The motors on the top were also finnicky and would regularly close the top to about 80% and then stop. Car had just about 70k on it at the time, 68k the last time I rode in it. Other than the garish interior issues it was pretty solid, maintenance was very expensive though, still a fun car to drive.

I ended up in a S2000 shortly after and that checked all the costs, reliability and fun boxes for me. The Porsche had more torque and was faster, but no where near as fun to own and drive.

This. Only people who know land cruisers know how much they cost. Most people at my job(valet service) think its a sequoia. They also think the odometer have something wrong because there's no way a 100 series will have 230k and look new and shiny. Then again most of the ones we see are well kept.

I read something a year or so ago on Jalopnik that detailed the ownership of the Landcruiser. Owners typically owned them for >10 years, usually paid cash and did not finance and were over 50.
