Time to call Toyota. Looks like the trust bearing has indeed failed. I bet if you call corporate they will just give you an engine for customer satisfaction. I have had a 22 tacoma come in at 11k with no clutch. This would be holding the clutch in esessivly and it didn't suffer from any sort of thrust play. This is a defect and should be covered under warranty. Unfortunately your trans is already out so it'd be a PITA to take it somewhere else.

Open a case with Toyota Corporate and fight them to cover it.

A 2 second shaky video proves and shows nothing.

    Photos same.

How does a human crap that much on a clutch at 38k miles and poof! Issues!

Feels more like bad assembly/part manufacture finally gave way.

I wish you luck man - open a case with Toyota Corp. regardless.

Expect them to act like bastards.

I can't believe you broke your motor..... The people on this forum swear by the manual being the more bulletproof option.....

Ya i don't think you did that. I would maybe try showing these pictures to another Toyota dealer and get an opinion from their mechanics. I'm not a Toyota Mechanic so I don't know if i'm missing something about these trucks but as mentioned above but I would guess manufacturing defect.

I try not to knock dealers because it's different being on the floor vs the customer but this doesn't seem right. Typically they should operate on the idea that it has to be proven it's your fault if they wanna make you pay for it.. not that it has to be proven not your fault to be covered. Even if you held the clutch, I would think the release bearing would fail before the thrust bearing

That's a wonderful bench the mechanic is using to put your parts on.

That work looks dirty, I'd definitely look for a different dealership in the future. I hope they take care of it under warranty.

The law states they have to prove what you did caused the failure, if under warranty. They won't be able to prove that. Definitely need to get Toyota corporate involved, call them.

This motor is shaping up to be a real turd for longevity.

Of course there is oil all over the place.
    Seal couldn’t hold..
It’s not your fault there was a crank thrust issue.
Get the local news station involved..
They are trying to back you in a corner.
    Get a lawyer.

At 38,000 miles even if you should depress the clutch and keep it depressed it should not affect the crank.

Hope you fight Toyota over their BS explanation and not having the end user pay for the flaw that was from the factory!

Also how do they know if you depressed the clutch to long? Did you tell them? Was the clutch/flywheel premature ware?

I have been extremely fortunate to have driven all kinds of -insane- high-powered cars over the years with manual transmissions, including 455 Firebirds, Boss 429, Boss 302 and Boss 351 Mustangs. A friend of mine had many of the crazy Chevelles, Pontiacs and a couple of Corvettes. I drove them with the clutch pedal on the floor at any extended stops and I'm sure they did too. The only time otherwise was when I was stuck in traffic and my leg was getting tired: then Neutral and off the pedal: Never had any issues with destroyed blocks, throw-out bearings, oil leaks or anything else. NONE of us.

Only word for this ridiculous diagnosis: "Crap-O-La" :pccoffee:

Something ruined these parts, but it wasn't your left foot, (or your right) or not changing your oil every 5,000 miles: Trust me (us) on this. You didn't do it..:proposetoast:

Rediculous, just when you think you’ve heard it all. This just sounds like a bad assembly or failed parts, it happens, Toyota needs to do the right thing and fix it!!! Good luck and don’t back down

Somehow I've missed the "Do not depress the clutch at stops" warning sticker.

I don’t get this video they say movement of the part . I’m watching the video all I see is the mechanic sticking a screwdriver in there and forcing the movement . Maybe someone can explain this ?
