I totally forgot about the race today and that they were running at Road America! I went to the Braves game, which was STELLAR. First time in the new park, incredible bottom of the 9th recovery.

Atlanta is next weekend. I don’t know who decided to race in Georgia at 3:30 in the middle of July. Count me out. I *might* go if it were a night a race, but these sunny daytime temps are ridiculous.

That reminds me of a funny story I heard about the 1996 Olympics. Authur Blank was on the committee to get them to have them there... he gave the Olympics committee a tour of the area... in the fall... and one of the biggest selling points he used was the average temperature. He told them the average temperature for the area was 75 degrees. When they called him out on it during the event... he quickly retorted with he never mentioned what part of the day he was referring to...

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Priceless.

Progress on our trailer. About 75% complete. Gotta mount the E-track, ceiling panel, wire the lighting, build a shelf for the V, and do a little trim work.

Then we have to swap the seat, motor and pedals on the kart. We're gonna run the old body for the first season but we have a fresh new body we'll decal up for season 2 when we have a little bit of learning under our belt.

Denny might be the new Mark Martin if he never wins a championship. He is the highest on all-time wins among active drivers without a championship. Only Junior Johnson ranks higher in wins without a championship.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Turns slimmed up by 15'. Gone, will be the days of easy 3-wide passes in the big sweeping turns. Banking changing from 24* to 28*. Sounds cool. Cars won't have to lift through the turns (sucks), carrying more speed. It'll be a mini-Superspeedway. I'm a little concerned because they didn't consult the drivers at all, and this is one of the driver's favorite tracks. Still, I prefer this move over reconfiguring the track back to the old layout.

    Atlanta by the numbers:
(based on data over the past 10 years)

    Manufacturer Wins:
    Chevrolet: 5
    Ford: 5
    Toyota: 2

    Active Driver Wins:
    Keselowski- 2
    Harvick- 2
    Blaney- 1
    Ku. Busch-1
    Hamlin- 1
    Ky. Busch- 1

    (source: https://www.racing-reference.info/tracks/Atlanta_Motor_Speedway/)

Avg Finish:(over past three Atlanta events)
    Harvick- 4
    Truex- 4.75
    Ky. Busch-5
    Hamlin- 6
    Larson- 7.67
    Blaney- 9.75
    Keselowski- 10
    Bowman 12.5
    Dillon 13
    Logano 13.5

    (source: https://www.driveraverages.com/nascar/track_avg.php?trk_id=1#recent)
    • Larson is going to dominate
    • barring any mishap, Larson is going to win
    • The top 5 in points, Hamlin, Larson, Byron, Ky Busch, and Logano are all pretty safe bets for good runs Sunday
    • Dark horses are the Busch brothers.Kurt looked good until he got dumped in March.
    • Temps will be 90*, and the track has little to no grip remaining. It's going to be a hot, slick, classic Atlanta race.

    Personal Picks: 5, 18, 11

It would be a popular win if the Wood Brothers grabbed win #100 at the final Atlanta race on the old pavement (only track with pavement dating to the last century, I think?), with Matty in a Quaker State sponsored car at the Quaker State 400 race.
