I agree, they are beasts. Dodge is good at building High HP dream machines. Unfortunately, it doesn't equate to mass market sales. Not everyone needs a Hellcat or Demon (I'd sure like one though!).

    Edit:
I long for a new Dakota. Those midsize pickups were a near-attainable dream when I was a teen. The oversized tires, wheels, and 318 V8 stuffed in them was so appealing.

Thanks for the history, I do remember them. Or being ever to seal the deal, and yes I do recall yota joining around the same time dodge left. I was not aware of the Bill Davis stuff.

Dodge actually made a gen 6 car as they has assumed Penske would stay on with them... but they pretty much eliminated all factory support and became just another sponsor. Penske was fed up and that spelled the end for Mopar in NASCAR.

yeah again, Dodge was just way behind in getting things done. Penske announced at the beginning of the 2012 season that they were switching to Ford for 2013. They had to contractually develop the new Charger (which looked Tough), but no one bit. There were rumors Andretti would come over and buy into RCR with RCR switching, too. Nothing ever came of it.

neither do these two. It'll all work out. Matty D is a darn good driver as our 1 and 42. They'll all find a good home.

I'm relieved that's settled. I don't think Cindric is the right fit for the 2 Driver ethos. I figured they'd move Blaney to the #2 and put Cindric in the third car. I guess this means the 22 is now the company car. Cindric has more than proven himself on paper within Trucks & Xfinity, but he was competing against relatively weak competition. I feel like he's being rushed. I guess this is all part of the F1-ification of stock car racing. All about family money, connections, etc. Like the Olympics, not necessarily the best natural athletes, just the ones whose parents could pay for the best coaches.

As for Wood Brothers, Harrison is a natural fit there. both longtime Virginia families in the sport for generations. Harrison is a good driver with a good head on his shoulders. Again, like Cindric, I feel like he's being rushed up.

Reflecting more, I don't think rushing drivers up is too big a deal given the new car coming in 2022.
    • Kurt Busch, Truex, Harvick, Newman, Almirola are all in the twilight of their careers.
    • Kyle Busch, Hamlin, Keselowski, Logano have peaked or are transitioning to new chapters in their careers.
    • Elliott, Blaney, Bowman, Byron, Larson are the new stars.

As a little league and middle school baseball coach, I see how money is ruining the game. There are some dam good kids whose families don’t have money, and will never reach their potential. Shit, my sons high school baseball team is all AAU (pay to play) kids, that are involved with the high school coaches AAU team.. my son said he was the only kid to not be wearing the AAU team gear at try outs, needless to say he didn’t make the team. There are a bunch of kids I coached in Middle school, that never got the opportunity in high school, because of this connection with the paid leagues.

I remember watching a F1 race and listening to the commentators talk about the cost it take to get into that sport.. it floored me that parents were dishing out that kind of money

It does, but thankfully my son said fuck you to them and ran track instead.
what concerns me the most is how sports are what motivates some to be involved with school, and the more of these programs that taken away from school sports, the more problems the kids get involved with because they have time on their hands.

one year I had a kid go out to the mound to pitch, he throw about 3 pitches and got my attention. I called time to go out and see what’s up. He said, “I can only pitch to this one batter, I have an AAU game this weekend I need to be ready for.” I said fine, went back to the bench and asked a kid who was still learning to pitch to go out. The team and fans were pissed, but I didn’t care, I wanted to coach someone who wants to help their school team, and deserved the opportunity.
