Excellent finish... and ANOTHER top 10 for the 21.

Keep showing them they were wrong to punt you out.

I'm a fan of the Penske red wheels but I'm a bigger fan of the #12 running black wheels. Gonna miss the ol' 9-hole racing wheels after this season.

100% agree. That’s one good looking hot rod right there. Big fan of the black wheels!

Oh man, here we go. What a wildcard with a must-win situation for playoff hopefuls. Harvick & Hamlin are winless on the season but locked in via points. Hamlin has become a recent powerhouse at the Superspeedways, playing the veteran strategy of laying back until the final 20 laps. Still, anything goes in these races. Recent surprise winners at Daytona include Erik Jones, Justin Haley, and Michael McDowell. my first Cup race was the 1991 Firecracker 400, where I saw Darrell Waltrip barrel roll through my binoculars, and Georgia-boy, Bill Elliott take the win in some oppressive heat. This was back before internal cooling systems when drivers regularly passed out and needed medical attention post-race.

Chevrolet really has the pace this year. Ford only has 6(!) wins all season. Toyota has the same tally of victories but hasn't won a race since June(!). Hendrick is responsible for 12 of Chevy's victories thus far. Avg finish is such a hard barometer for success at Daytona. It's become a Checkers or Wreckers deal thanks to modern rules packages. It wasn't always this way. Earnhardt was vocally averse to the pack-style racing but once he was out of the picture, NASCAR really doubled-down efforts to bunch up the cars.

    My Picks: 11, 12, 21

    Wins by Manufacturer:
    • Ford- 9
    • Chevy- 8
    • Toyota- 4

    Wins by Active Drivers:
    • Hamlin- 3
    • Dillon- 1
    • Jones- 1
    • Haley- 1
    • Byron- 1
    • Logano- 1
    • Almirola -1
    • McDowell- 1
    • Ku Busch- 1
    • Stenhouse- 1
    • Keselowski- 1

    Average Recent Finishes:
    • Haley- 7 (only two races entered)
    • Dillon- 14.75
    • Cindric- 15 (only one race entered)
    • Wallace- 15.3
    • Hamlin- 15.97
    • Bell- 16.67
    • Harvick- 17.23
    • Logano- 17.92
    • Chastain- 18.17
    • Bowman- 18.5

agreed. while i will admit there was some good racing, especially there at the end, I still prefer the high HP/low downforce package. Make them boys wheel the cars home.

Until... the racing gets what they deem not entertaining... or 1 or 2 drivers dominate... then they'll figure out a way to clamp them down too.

He's in on points. Only one spot remains in the playoff which is either Dillon's or Reddick's on points alone unless someone else wins Daytona.

I'm pulling for Reddick and the 8 team. Dillion is tough at Daytona so should be interesting. Can't pick a winner but the sentimental favorite is the 21.

Going into Daytona with the last spot up for grabs in the playoffs, and Harvick being in on points, I can't see him being a factor for the win. Maybe he'll surprise us all and pull out a playoff win!

NASCAR needs a storybook finish to wrap up the regular season and drum up interest in the playoff. They've turned a blind eye in the past at Daytona so a storied team could secure a vital win and major press coverage. :hattip:

    Its. Not. Him.

Its not anything other than the circumstances of 2021. They changed rules but didn't let anybody test or practice. HMS figured something out and kept it to themselves. Teams are just now getting a grasp on the package.
