18 still in top 4. So far, so good! One more race to stay there and make that championship four!

This year has been some of the best racing.

Makes you wonder what the next gen car will be like next year.

There's been some complaints from some of the drivers testing them recently.

    Guess we'll see next year.

First race is at LA Coliseum for the first time ever.

They are building a 1/4 mile asphalt track around the football field.

I'm just ready for these cars to stop being so aero sensitive. At least the new car will be composite so a tiny brush with the wall won't be the end of the world.

I caught the final 1/2 stage yesterday but seemed like the most excitement was all the playoff boys cutting tires early on. On to an exciting track, the Grand-daddy of them all Martinsville! This will be the last time the Gen 6 hit the concrete paperclip. Lots of guys vying to lock in the final four. It's sure to be a tense race. Truex has the most active wins in the past ten years but his average finish doesn't reflect consistent top finishes. This is likely Keselowski's last chance to put the #2 in victory lane. He's done it before. Kyle Busch is hit or miss here but usually finishes well (as long as Harvick doesn't try to dump him). Beyond these three, we've had a slew of winners over the past decade. Last year's win by Elliott was improbable but he succeeded and carried the momentum into Phoenix. Here's the data from the past ten years:

    Manufacturer Wins:
    • Chevrolet 11
    • Toyota 6
    • Ford 4
    Source:

    Active Driver Wins:
    • Truex 3
    • Keselowski 2
    • Ky Busch 2
    • Harvick 1
    • Newman 1
    • Logano 1
    • Elliott 1
    • Hamlin 1
    • Ku Busch 1
    Source:

    Average Finish:

    Hamlin 9.7
    Blaney 10.7
    Keselowski 11.2
    Logano 12.1
    Ky Busch 12.1
    Elliott 13.5
    Harvick 14.7
    Newman 14.9
    Reddick 16
    Truex 16.4

Larson was 5th last year at Martinsville.

It will be interesting how hard he runs. When asked, Larson's crew chief said after Texas, they are gonna stay full open throttle even though they secured a spot in the final 4. That was apparent yesterday at Kansas.

He's got nothing to lose. It would be huge for HMS and 5 to have a 10 win season.

I'm ready for these cars to (hopefully) stop being so aero-sensitive. A single brush with the wall and your day is pretty much wrecked. That has a lot to do with the lack of horsepower, but still.

I think the 9 was the better car by the end of the race but he got completely screwed by the 4 and the 5 on that last restart. By the 4 because he got zero push and by the 5 for allowing the 4 to be there. All good though. Baring some jackassary the 9 should make the show at PIR. I feel bad for the 12! He got strait effed over by the 3!!

It will be funny when Harvick ends up in the booth and he has to call Chase in the car. I just hope he calls him up on the radio and it sounds something like "Chase, this is KH up in the booth. Ya got me." And the response sounds something like "Hey Kevin, FUCK YOU!"

Just booked my trip for the 2022 Indy 500. My buddy had some extra tickets. My kid is going to flip out when I tell him. Do I keep it a secret until later? it's his first time flying and our first time going to the Speedway.
