I am a die-hard Ryan Newman fan and I don't blame either Hamlin or Blainey. It was just hard racing. But I also never have liked Daytona from a driver safety aspect. Racing on the smaller 1 mile tracks is much more entertaining to watch. With the superspeedway, especially Daytona, it becomes more of a crapshoot as to whose left running and in decent shape at the end.
NASCAR should dump the Superspeedways and get rid of the elimination setup they currently have go back to the old points system. But they stopped listening to the fans when old man France died.

Nascar could increase attendance... I've said it before... keep the V8s and have free camping like Talladega (with sunday ticket) and alot of people will go for the experience and come back as fans

Given the amount of money that was recently spent building the stadium I don't see Daytona going anywhere. I like Dale Jr's idea of smaller spoilers to reduce down force. That will do two things. First it will slow the closing rate because the cars won't be punching as big of a hole in the air. Second, it will put more emphasis on mechanical grip and could force the drivers to actually lift going into the turns.

Not that it's super relative, back in my NR2003 sim racing days the guys I raced with would modify the track files to remove restrictor plates. That definitely forced us to lift in the corners and chassis tuning was much more important. Granted, drafting speeds on the back stretch would get in the 220mph range, but we would have to use the brakes to get into the turn .

And lose all that money? It'll never happen. I agree, go back to the old point system.

If most fans want the old points, why dont they do it? I feel like the "regular season champion" is a more legit award than the playoff winner take all shit...

I hear ya, but I think what spoiled the old format for peeps was when Buddy Arc Welder won it all without winning a race all season...can't even remember his name as I type this...

    Edit, Matt Kenneth?

The gripe... if it must be known... was Matt Kenseth won with 1 win and a rather consistent season. NASCAR hated it because the most wins that year was Dale Jr...

The chase was supposed to put a premium on late season wins... but JJ and CK figured out how to game that system so they had to amend it again.

If you want to do a postseason of sorts:
1- break the finale into at least 3 races like the rest of the cutoff.
2- keep this as a championship only setup and let second through whatever stay with the points setup so if you dont make the chase you can at least still compete for a good points spot.
3- eliminate the win and in provision. Its stupid.

I stand corrected...interesting, the year before he won 5 races yet not the most points. Every system has its flaws was my point

Yeah but racing is all about the whole season... so playoffs are stupid. I dont watch other sports and dont want racing to be like other sports

This^^^. The only football I watched this year was the end, cause the Chiefs and Niners both did so good. The rest I could careless about. Racing shouldn’t be that way.

The old system was about consistency, which it should be. The playoffs is a big ole pile of bullshit. Never have liked it.

Playoffs can be a good concept... if done right. This current iteration isnt right.

If you really want a playoff... first of all you need to include only top tier drivers. Top 8 or... really no more than top 10. Any more waters the concept down. This is why I dont watch the NCAA MBB tournament. Too many teams. The last tier of the championship should be over a few races. It's too easy for 1 driver to have a good race or bad race. Can he do it 3 straight times... and have different type tracks... short, intermediate, superspeedway (or road course... to make it really interesting)

Also... seperate the playoff from regular points.

I'd like to see the old points system come back with a form of playoff. This point system... and the annoying stage points... is completely ridiculous.

They need to systematically roll back all of the changes Brian France enacted. He disliked the sport and was pretty much forced into the family business to keep a France in the driver seat. Lesa has much more love for the sport and is a really smart woman. It's a shame she wasn't put in charge.

And let em fight if they want to, they're grown men and all of them workout. It would add to the excitement!
