    Talking about smaller teams...

I posted a little about this last year when it happened... but back when there was questions on Matt's future I made a plea on either the WBR or Matty D FB group saying how crazy it would be to let him walk after the success he had after 1 season. I actually had a major employee for Wood Brothers( who wished to not be identified) reach out to me personally and address the behind the scenes situation. Turned out it was Penske call given they control the entire race operation sans two mechanics who have been there since day 1... and the hauler... but it was cool someone like that took time to help a little fan like me understand what was really going on. You wouldn't get that from JGR or SHR... it made me feel like part of it.

It is a little pricy but it seems to be a good unit. I will let you know what I think of it when it's done and will shoot you some pics. If you have dash pad issues, the best solution I have found is a little place called Just Dashes. They redo the original core and its a little better than factory. Cost about $200-$300 more than a repop. I have the carpet kit at home, got the headliner and all that done already. Did that a few weeks ago. Sometime this summer I will redo the seat and replace the door panels and call it done for now. As you know they are never finished.

That is neat! I remember writing them a letter many years back telling them to keep an eye on Ryan Blaney and get him in that car if they had the opportunity. Penske does call the shots over there these days as the family has taken a backseat to focus on running the museum, memorabilia, and social media.

They can’t afford to run the events without fans because they don’t have that TV and advertising money. And if they allow fans someone will say it’s the cause of an outbreak.

    I miss rooting against him.

He was the guy you truly loved to hate. The early 1994 season was my favorite time period.

I loathed him... but damn did I respect his talent.

agree, mad respect, but massive hate. I was watching with a bunch of teenage boys (social services job) and cheered when he hit. One of the most regretful things I have ever done. It was very sad to hear that he didn't make it.

I remember showing up at AMS at get 11 with a poster board with the #3 with a red circle and line across it, booing Dale while a bunch of drunk adults cussed me out.

I had a weekend job doing dishes at a restaurant then... I had taped it to watch when I got home but before I could the talk of the whole restaurant became about how Dale had died. ( it was a waffle shop... in the south... this was social media in the early 2000s around here. Patrons literally rushed in to talk about it)

The atmosphere was somber to say the least.

If you could have the production version of a Cup car counterpart from 1948-2021, which car would you pick?

LOL, my dad loves those things too. 160HP of 305 rage. They do look good though. As I rebuild that 1986 K1500 I think to myself how in the hell did people drive this underpowered shit back in the 80's with the emissions and gas saving drive 55 campaign.
