That was a fun bit of trail.

Real curious how the Land Rover gang did after we got out.

Forest Service press conference I was watching last night mentioned they "may" close El Dorado... I guess they were more decided than they let on.

Was also left open that they "may" close the entire forest... that'll be about $300 in wasted License and tag fees for me, for a second year in a row.

Should still be able to hunt Tahoe NF or Stanislaus? Assuming you have a D3-5 tag

They left it open to close the ENTIRE forest... all of it.

I'm D6... so far D6 is doing well staying out of the fires. I hope that continues... really hope everyone, everywhere can stay out of danger, but D6 seems to be doing better than most this year.

D5 is going to be tough to hunt, regardless, this year. Now with Eldorado closed, the sliver of Stanislaus left is a lot of SPI land, which is closed and has been since June... not to reopen until there is significant rain.

Yup, I usually get a d3-5. Decided to skip it this year and just get a preference point.

I totally thought about doing preference only... But my dumb ass just had to roll the dice. I hope I don't get locked out of the hunt.

I realize many people have a lot more on the line than a couple hundred bucks in tags, so please no one misunderstand what I'm saying here.

Going to be in Sonora this weekend and planning on taking a spin up to Pinecrest Peak. Any tips/tricks or otherwise useful information about trails around there?

That's the Herring Creek area. Only thing I have heard is the roads to Pinecrest Peak as well as Eagle Peak (other side of the Herring Creek Reservoir "bowl") can be a bit rough... but should be passable.

Give us a trip report though. I've never been up those peaks, but have had them on a list of things to do for a few years.

    Also @Landroamr

There are no fires close, but the smoke was pretty thick up 108 last weekend. Was killing our views from Niagara Rim trail... smoke seems to be a lot thicker now than it was then (at least here in the Valley, not sure about up there today)

Point being... the views are probably not going to be the best up there right now.
