Want to upgrade the halogen bulbs in my stock fog lamps. I was under the impression that 3rd Gen TRD trims come with H11's as the stock bulbs and was surprised to find H16's when I pulled them out. From what I read in the forums this change in bulbs and housing was pretty recent, either in 2020 or 2021 but the manual says that the fogs can either be H11 or H16 depending on the beam pattern you want. Just wanted to see if anybody else upgraded the bulbs in the newer plastic housing/lens combo and ran into any problems.

OR has h16 or yours is Sport? Just spend a 100 and upgrade to LEDs. I have a set of 2017 OR for H11. Free

Will the H16 pigtail accept an H11 bulb without modification?

LEDs (SS3s) are the future goal but rear suspension is the current big goal. I wanted yellow bulbs for the occasional snow storm until a big upgrade. H11s went into both the harness and housing no problem. Guess that makes sense if the manual references both bulbs as replacements. After reading through crash's posted about headlights I wasn't sure a single reflector could do both wide and narrow by changing the type of bulb.

H16 are made for the fogs as there is a cut off pattern where h11 will throw a 360 degree pattern and blind on coming traffic from your fogs both clips are the same

So does the manual assume you have one type of housing or the other?

Liquid, I'll dm your about that offer!

Just for comparison, here are the patterns the two bulbs project on the garage door. I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff but the H11 (yellow) cutoff matches up pretty well with the stock H16 (white). The biggest difference was the temperature of the lens and housing after just a few minutes.

If you don’t have the factory led headlight housing you will have the projector housing and your fogs will have the halogen housing

Definitely have the halogen/reflector housing but if you take a look at my photo from the manual page it says either H16 or H11 bulbs will work in the truck. Does that mean the single housing can handle the heat from either and the projector can create the right pattern from either?

I thought trd off roads came with H11 wide angle fogs and SR5’s came with H16 non-wide angle? I just assumed they’re two different housings.

The plastic housings don’t like the h11 Phillips bulbs. Cheapest upgrade for you would be to find a set of glass 16 or fogs to put h11s in.

Check the forums from crashburn I know that if u put a h11 in your fogs you will blind on coming traffic as I had to take out my 3000k yellow bulbs after I installed them there was no cut off and it just threw the light all over

That was because you used the wrong type h11. There is fog bulb and a headlight bulb they produce very different patterns. Up until 2020 the fogs were h11 from the factory.

I doubt that my manual said h16 for fogs and when you buy led bulbs from Amazon there is no specific indication whether it’s made for headlights or fog lights there is no description of the cut off light

The cutoff looked OK on mine (I think at least) with the H11s installed but the temp was too high. I believe crash also had some H11 bulbs he recommended for fogs. I just wish the OR still came with the old fixtures
