Well as the title implies I want to see who else has had shit paint from the factory.

My new 2021 pro is fantastic.... Except for the hood and roof. Just picked it up and noticed that whoever put the wrap on the roof and hood did not let the paint completely cure so it's got some sick waves in it.

PDI caught it, but it couldn't be detailed away. Dealer notified me immediately and sent pictures off to Toyota corporate.

Dealer is working with Toyota to make it right and already attempted a heat gun, cut and polish, etc. And it's still pretty well fucked. My personal thoughts are the roof and hood are going to need to be painted after stripping it.

    Build date 05/21
    Color: Black
    Trim: TRD PRO
Location of issues: roof, hood. Vertical surfaces appear unmarred.

Since it's. Black it's almost impossible for me to get a good image, but having done body work it's visible and a factory defect. I know it's a truck and will get scratched up...but still I am going to push Toyota to do the right thing. Mostly just interested in who else experienced this on a brand new rig.

My original 2020 I had allocated arrived covered in rail dust. It was all over the entire truck on every panel. Dealer said it would 'polish out' and they would have the detail guy knock it out while I signed the paper work.

I passed and they sold the truck to someone else as-is about 10 minutes after I said no. They got me another one a few weeks later with no issues.

I would not want a new truck that was sanded and resprayed. Repairs are never the same as factory paint.

    Good luck!

Unlucky and sorry. But it really does not make a difference to you if there are none or 100 others. You do you.

Makes sense. Not the end of the world, but more of an annoyance that waiting months would result in less than stellar paint.

Atleast it didn't get to partake in the derailment that occurred recently

That could be buffed out (not saying it can though). Best bet is to take it to Toyota before you take it to a detailer because it could be fixed under warranty.

That's the plan. Before I took receipt I insisted it be noted and reported to Toyota in the event of clear failure or future issues and they're running it up to toyota for approval to fix.

I can't belive I just stumbled across this thread. I had the exact same problem with my 2021 midnight black metallic tacoma and assumed It was an isolated incident. Didn't notice it until the day after I brought it home. Looked like saran wrap was pulled across wet paint on the hood and then allowed to dry. Called the dealer immediately obviously and they repainted the hood with zero push back.

Mine isn't that bad, but my sales rep and his manager concurred that the pre travel wrap was the likely cause. Weird how we're both rocking black with similar issues

Not sure what my build date is but I bought it in February and it arrived at the dealership in January so it's definitely earlier than yours. I'm loving the black metallic though. It's a bitch to keep clean but those blue and purple flakes are crazy.

Glad they fixed it for you.

I love my midnight black as well! All except for one, were all black vehicles. It’s a lot of work to keep it looking good but it’s very rewarding, to me anyways:)

Some people think I’m crazy, I recently spent 10 hours cut polishing, ceramic coating, applying glass shield, etc.

I take her in the bush and she still looks almost brand new! No issues with my paint luckily, I inspected every inch and it’s perfect.

I need to swallow my pride and get mine ceramic coated. I'm a wash and wax guy coming from the tuner euro car scene so I like cleaning and doing my own stuff, but I really don't want to mess up a coating

    Beautiful rig

Thank you sir! It’s my baby.

I would highly recommend ceramic coating, well worth it. I wouldnt wait too long though, so you don’t have to do paint correction.

You will save a lot of money by applying the coating yourself. The first time I did it, came out about 80% perfect, second time I did it, came out almost perfect. If you mess up just use polishing compound and redo the panel, not a huge deal.

    Anyways, get it done!

I dont see anything wrong.. Youre going to cover it with a roof rack/no one will ever see that.. so why make a big fuss? Or get the dealer to knock off a couple $ for it.

There might be future paint issues down the road? Like peeling/cracking.

Actually had a paintless dent removal guy fix a dent that I did when I was camping. These guys are magicians!

I removed the wheel liner for him and he only wanted 100$, I gave him a beer and 120$:)

It looks very minor in the pic, but was super noticeable in the sun. My ocd is pretty bad... I’m super happy how it came out.

    Haha! True that.

But some of us are pretty anal about our paint:oops:

I'm not stressing, but it does run down the entire drivers side of the hood and at an angle looks like waves through the paint haha.

Mostly I want it documented with Toyota corporate because if the clear failure, paint fails, or something else happens I can force them to fix it or just have the dealer repaint and make it perfect.

Sadly the roof is worse than the hood, but its hard to get it to capture on camera. Coming from painting cars from highschool until 22 certain things just get seen and cannot be forgotten haha. It will get chipped, scratched, and dinged, but with 5 miles on the odo I want Toyota to cough up some coin to ensure their work meets the price tag hahaha

Noticed some weird paint issues on my fresh Taco today.. but wanted to confirm if this was intentional or not. It looks like not enough paint was applied!
