I like it as well, my dad bought a Datsun 1600 in 1971, it was a great little truck, except for rusting out very quickly. Good on Nissan, hopefully Toyota will get the hint with the 9 speed tranny.

I always enjoy the "it looks like X mated with Y" comments. I think it looks pretty darn good. Exterior and interior look like what I would want in a mid size truck. Nissan hit it out of the park with this new gen and after 15 years they kind of had to. I don't know what the new(ish) powertrain drives like but if it drives any better than the 3rd gen Taco (and I'm assuming it does) then that's a win. If I had to rank them just for fun based on personal preference I'd pick Tacoma = Nissan > Ranger > Colorado. Gladiator is somewhat of a mix between mid range and full size.

agreed smart move from Nissan, I think they will be able to directly compete with the Tacoma now like they were 10 years ago, I honestly they they will be neck and neck..

also not 7k yearly sales closer to 70-80k sales per year, if Nissan doubles/triples that Toyota might be in trouble, hopefully this drives change.

I agree that bof would be nice. But what would stand out for me more was if Honda kept the same idea but made it CRV sized.

I like an open bed but might not necessarily need all of the other aspects that come with a truck. So I kind of like the idea of a Ridgeline and checked it out a bit both times I was shopping for a truck.

But Honda threw in so much technology and whatever making the cheapest Ridgeline more expensive then a midtier Tacoma. I think when I looked recently it started at like $32k, maybe with the options I wanted can't remember.

The majority of stuff it offered I didn't need or care for and it only came with a five foot bed.

So went with the cheaper option which still gave me everything that I was looking for.

If Honda made it more CRV sized, keeping decent rear passenger room, it would make it stand out against the other trucks in my point of view.

I like it. If I were in the market for a new truck I'd seriously consider it. I hear good things about the way the 3.8L & 9 speed trans drive.

All good thoughts. I tried to pull the data for sales but couldn't find a quick and easy way to do it. But look at that chart. Let's set aside the Tacoma for a bit. That is the gold standard in the category and Nissan has a long way to go to get there. But look at that. They haven't upgraded their offering in 17 years and with a little effort -- and this new design -- they should be able to pass the Gladiator and the Ranger easily. Probably the Colorado with out much effort as well.

They are doing the right thing here from a strategy perspective. They are cash starved. Get back in the game. Knock off the low hanging fruit. Pass the Ranger and turn it into a two horse race. Hope that you can earn enough profits to continue to refine and offer your product as the good enough, lower priced option.

This is exactly what I thought....not a bad thing. Definitely worth checking out this summer and add it to my next potential truck list as those were Ranger and Tacoma so a mixed bag could be interesting.

After owning 2 Toyota Pickups, I switched to a Frontier and really liked it, especially the Supercharged V6 that one had. Unfortunately that vehicle was short lived as the family came along so off to full size I quickly went.

Pricing will be interesting. If they're looking to be similar priced to the well established Tacoma, I could see sales being very slow but if they can under-cut 10-15% MSRP like they use to, they could attract some real attention.

The next generation Ranger will be coming out shortly too, l would be kinda surprised if the Frontier knocks the Ranger out of 2nd place.

What is the Ford one? Tried searching Ford Ridgeline in jest but it automatically thinks Honda. FFS. losers.
That Santa Cruz pickup tho. We need to see a head to head to head of these three El Camino wannabes.

Black fender flares, similar wheels to the off-road, shark fin antennas, tailgate letter. Looks like a cement off road 2.0

Oh god, the front end from a side profile looks strikingly similar to a ford flex.
Could this be the ford flex truck no one was waiting for?

Nissan is a very reliable name, right there with Toyota across their respective catalogues imo. I had a pro-4x 08’ Xterra (badged ‘off road’ at the time) and pro-4x 11’ titan and they were both great to me, no issues.

As for the Tacoma comparisons, apart from fenders and OR wheels... I see nothing similar. Def f-150 taillights tho! It’s a massive improvement for the Frontier.

Also is the mil-mile Fronty guy the target audience>?

I'm sure it's sell alright, there's always someone who doesn't care about the difference between this and a Tacoma.

Honda does not need to go BOF, they know better.

Also, I'd take those Frontier seats in my 3rdgen.

Interesting ... didn't know the Ranger was up for a refresh. We will see in a year. You could be right but I think Nissan will come at it from a price point perspective and that might matter to a lot of folks. I looked at the Ranger and wanted to like it when I was refreshing my Tacoma (2005 to 2020) but the Tacoma was a lot better. I also liked the design far better. And, if I recall, the Ranger was not cheap.
