@shortyg83 there's a thread on the forum about the metra harnesses I'll try to find and link it for you. The '21 for sure is different than earlier 3rd gen's. "Burrito Tunez" offers a full plug and play harness to make everything really easy. I used the more expensive kit bc it comes with a lot of speaker wire to make this easier especially if you aren't planning on mounting the amp in the dash. Also make sure you get the right speaker harnesses for the 6.5's it's different in the 2021's. I used Crutchfield to get the correct model # for all the speaker harnesses.

I have a '21 SR5 I did full speaker upgrade with infinity reference 6x9's, 6.5's, and tweeters in dash w/ kicker key powering them and kicker 8" Hideaway underneath the drivers seat. Everything was plug and play for me and no factory wires were cut.

So I do have one question for you. Is the black connector on the end of the stereo still the speaker connector? It appears that on mine there is also a yellow red and black wire which would point to it no longer being the speaker connector.

Do you have a picture? I did my install 4+ months ago and I've slept a few times since then.

that last black wire according to the metra diagram would be the speaker harness. But i cant tell off that changed on this year due the colors of the cables.

This is very interesting. With the Alpine running six speakers, are the front doors & dash tweeters on the same channels, or would it take a six channel amp to drive all six speakers? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a noob here. I'm in line for a Pro with a manual so I won't be getting the JBL system. What you have done seems like a pretty trick upgrade.

The front door speakers and tweeters are wired in parallel factory and they are still wired that way. I never checked the resistance. I just hooked it all up. The amp runs it fine without clipping so if it is a 2 ohm load, the amp doesn't seem to mind. The front does have more volume but that is more a headunit output thing than the amp.

I ran the subi tweeters and the replaced the front speakers with 2ohm jbl 6x9 . Ran a 8inch jl audio sub . Sounds great to me . Used a kicker high low converter to get a signal to amplifier . Didn’t need to replace the rear door speakers or needing any additional power to the front speakers .

I should have all of mine installed on Saturday. I will update with how it sounds.
Focal IS690 in the front door and dashboard
Focal IC165 in the rear doors
Access Control ACM4.300 as an amp/line converter.

whatever you do add sound deadening material in the doors. i replaced the tweeters and front door speakers and did not add sound deadening and when i play EDM the door panels vibrate from the bass.

So kauaihunter, are you very satisfied with this setup? you think it was more costly / worth it over a Kicker setup from Crutchfield? I just got got the same rig, 2021 double cab TRD OR and I'm set to order my speakers....... Thx

2020+ HEAD unit connectors on the back of the HU were changed to a smaller connection type. I installed kickers front and rear, a mono 500w amp. I bought a adapter and the type of RCA connectors -/+ leads. Its not super hard to do. just have to get the right speakers, it took me about 1 hour to get it all dialed in. If you want I can show you the setup. You can do it on the cheap too, you do not have to go high end, hell even some decent pioneers will sound better than OEM. other companies that have their own packages for the tacoma are just up charging like a MF. DIY and save that monies! @elduder is a wiring guru and prob can just build you a harness, and hes a cool guy.

I'm really interested too in adding a small amp. I have already replaced all my speakers with Kicker DS (CS WAS NOT AVAILABLE at the time) put in the subaru tweets too. I have a Sound Ordinance 8" powered sub from my previous Jeep suv waiting to be installed. the Alpine thing looks like it would be enough power for me. I just am not sure how to integrate the factory head unit and the sub I have with it.

The kicker speakers are good but could use a bit more power.

    Subaru tweeters from Amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Suba...d=1&keywords=H631SFJ101&qid=1634321636&sr=8-2

Front and back kickers ordered from Crutchfield because they include the bracket and plug & play harness

    Front

    Back

I also ordered the 8 inch kicker hideaway, but haven't installed it yet, so no review on how that sounds or ease of install.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
I really like that OEM Audio+ system with the two subs and amps...$2500 isn't terrible for good audio.

I just ordered the Alpine KTP-445U from Crutchfield. they had an open box for $119!

Are the harnesses you listed correct for the 2020 non JBL 8" radio also?
I also have a line out converter to go with my powered sub trying to see what I might need to plug it all in together.
