I have a 2017 AC with a 2.7 5 spd combo...Just about to turn 30,000 on the odo. I will hold onto this one and see how many miles I can rack up on it. So far the only issue is a bad fan motor. That's getting replaced (Recall) on the 24th of this month.

    I loathe the 3.5 but that's what I'd buy.

I bought a 2020 SR 4x4 4cyl last month and traded it this week for a SR5 DCSB 4x4 v6 auto. This is not my first Gen 3 I've owned, but my first 4 cyl. I found it fine around town but even living in FLAT Indiana, it struggled on the freeway. Constantly shifting between 5th and 6th at 75 mph. I bought it because the 2.7 is indestructible. I can say I am much happier with the v6 though. The 16 v6 OR that I had even felt sluggish and was always gear hunting. They must have made some adjustments as I love my SR5! Drives better than my 16 OR and feels like a different truck. And believe it or not, I'm getting better mileage with the v6 so far and I babied the 4 cyl when I had it.

If Toyota made a 2.7 5or6 speed manual SX I think that's what I'd want. I think Toyota would sell more Tacomas if the 4cy manual still existed. I wonder if the auto6 is any better than the auto4 with the 2.7.

Nothing that I'm aware of, I just don't like it. 4.0 out of the 4Runner would be better.

You dont like it because of guys bitching about it on TW?:)Did you ever drive one?

Its more powerful and gets better fuel mileage than 4.0. Plus 3.5 can be tuned to 300 hp for 700$. Not sure what not to like.
I drove 4.0 and it was out of breath at 5k rpms, not sure why guys love it so much. Why 4.0 would be better?

Again, just like the 2.7, the 4.0 is bulletproof. Look at the high mileage Gen2's and resale values...

Look at used 3rd gen resale values:rolleyes:
This 3.5 has been around for about 13 years in lexus vehicles with no issues. Im sure this 3.5 will be just as bulletproof as 4.0. Yota makes good engines, except for that old 3.0:)

2.7 will oulive the 3.5 and 4.0 IMHO.

Cant believe they get close to $30,000 for a 4 Cyl Toyota pickup. Toyota price increases have outpaced inflation the last 25 years.

Tacoma pricing should be the new gold standard.

Dude, the wasted taxes you paid on a vehicle you had for barely 3 weeks is crazy.

    I paid $20,500 for a DCSB 2WD 4-cyl in 2014.

I made 3k more in my favor selling my SR outright over what I would save in taxes so I did alright....
