OK - this is an odd one.

2021 Tacoma purchased new in August. It is sitting parked in my driveway while I visit relatives for the holidays. It has been parked since Saturday.

My neighbor just called (Monday) and said the alarm has been going off randomly since 6AM.

I’ve checked the app and it says everything is closed and locked. There are no reports or notifications on the app regarding the alarm.

Would snow on the truck cause this (we had a couple inches)?

Truck is completely stock other than Wet Okole seat covers and DDI seat jackers installed just before the holidays. I can’t imagine there is an interior sensor that would be effected by either of those additions?

Highlanders used to have faulty hood pins built into the latch. Not sure if your Tacoma has one but could be that.

if not it’s gotta be a door pin

Thanks. Perfect timing for it to fail when I’m 250 miles away.

Going to have to buy the neighbors a bunch of booze to apologize for the truck waking them up on a holiday weekend.

What is really annoying is the Toyota app has zero notifications regarding the alarm sounding. The app pings me if I leave the truck unlocked for a minute while unloading the bed, but I got nothing when the alarm was sounding. What a useless app design.

If you can unlock from app, neighbor can disconnect battery so it doesn't keep happening. Hell, that might even fix the problem if it's computer controlled

pull the negative battery, it'll kill everything but then you wont have to worry about it till you get back

I agree, have someone disconnect the battery, then deal with it when you get home.

As to the root cause, I would look at the battery as when the Voltage gets low that sometimes causes electronics to act strange.

    Thanks again, everyone.

There is definitely a gremlin in the system somewhere. I checked the app for past notifications and noticed a report that multiple doors were unlocked at 6 AM this morning. It was definitely locked when I left it on Saturday.

When I used the app to lock the doors, it responded that the doors were already locked.

I have since used the app to unlock and lock the doors, and so far no new alarms (or at least no texts from annoyed neighbors). Murphy’s law states if it happens again, it’ll occur at 3AM.

Used to be a common practice by car thieves to set off the alarm in the middle of the night until the entire neighborhood gets ticked off and force owners to disable it...

I wouldn't discount completely the possibility that someone tried to unlock the doors and set off the alarm.
